In those days it was syphilis and gonorrhea. Herpes was not spoken of until around 1980.
And it was called VD (venereal disease) before it was called STD.

I mentioned before that the Beatles road to success was a series of unlikely coincidences. Any one link in that chain could have caused them to become teachers, lorry drivers or professional students.
The writing quality. After 2 years of being forced to 'mach shau' for hours every day they had to learn a bunch of unlikely music which would, in a fertile mind like theirs, set in and absorb itself into their original r&r songs. After all that playing time, using relative majors/minors, 6th chords etc would be second nature as they set out on their original tunes.
But as was mentioned, other bands didn't learn or get that creative success so inherent talent had to be there to begin with.
But again, it would all have been for naught if George Martin hadn't met Judy.

I totally agree that diversity of covers played a major part in their own songwriting. I'm sure you have experienced yourself when playing covers, six months down the line of playing them live and you happen to hear the original, you realise how different your version has evolved in comparison - unless you are an Oasis tribute band!
I think the point I'm trying to make is that we have been led to believe so much by previous books as well as people who where there at time that simply isn't true. I think Tune In is a revelation if indeed true, and I have no reason to believe it isn't.

I didn't know that about Herpes. Are you a specialist in Infectious diseases Henry J or where you in Hamburg in the 60's!!

No, Mr.Mustard, just an old guy. VD or STD has been around a long time.
Just remembered, part of the course and scope of my job last year was studying how STD program money was spent. So I do know more now about STDs than I knew two years ago.
But I do remember when herpes became the big STD scare circa 1980 and then AIDS came along and blew that away.

I guess he has interviewed lots of people who were there and were never interviewed and found loads of interview from the time that were never used. This story is a bit more like real life than the charmed, ever upward trajectory that is usually portrayed. Even in Anthology. I don't think any of them know the story that well and it was them in it!!!

I've read the standard length edition of Tune In and I'm very pleased with it. Once I finished it, I went online to see when the next editions were coming. 2020!!! and then 2028 !!! Ugh, I can't wait that long. This is a little macabre, but has this crossed anyone else's mind? - What a tragedy it would be if Mark Lewisohn passes away before he finishes all three volumes. Stay healthy Mark.

Well.I hope if he mentions Tommy Moore that he gets his facts correct. In his other book he had no idea about Tommy and was rather rude about him.

Without doubt the best Beatle book ever ..And it`s only part 1 ! it's a bugger that he's not predicting part 2 to come out until 2020. Maybe once i've finished this i'll get The Complete Beatles recording sessions. Just watched the first part of him answering questions at Beatles week, great stuff.
