Great interview. Thanks for posting Rocky, it's just a shame it was conducted in an open place with people milling about. Nevertheless it still further wets the appetite. Interestingly Mark shows the book on camera at the end and the cover is significantly different to the one that was shown earlier this year which was naff. I assume the next two volumes are going to be called Tune In and DropOut.

I'm almost half way through now - one of the best books I've ever read. I'll be really sad to finish the thing. At least there's two more books to look forward to...

I got the extended version for Christmas - absolutely loving it so far! My only gripe would be that I don't really want to know about the sexual exploits of 14/15 year-old boys - one fact too far I think!
Anyone else reading it currently?

I got the extended version too! Only perused it so far but will start in anger soon.
Don't you feel you should be wearing those white, soft gloves handling it!
Also got the Kevin Howlett Beatles at the BBC book and Spencer Leigh's Beatles in America. As well as socks, undies and a selection box!

Well, you're not too far from the truth there - as I got volume one out of the box, there was a ring on the doorbell, and in my haste I dropped the book and creased the first f-ing page!!! Was not at all happy.... so in anger I purchased the Kindle version.... which is the equivelant of white gloves!! I also got the Howlett book but not the Leigh one... or any undies! LOL Is Beatles in America recommended?

I was quite humbled to find that my secret Santa in work had bought me the Lewisohn book whereas I'd bought her a pair of Tartan socks and a Tartan Santa hat!,....yes she's Scottish! I read it for an hour and ended up with a repetitive strain injury on my left arm because it's so bloody heavy....but so bloody good!!!

That's rather extravagant! It's a tender limit in our place! Surely she is a secret admirer if she's gone to that trouble!

Like I said I was very humbled to receive that as a secret Santa gift as the price limit was only supposed to be a fiver, nevertheless I took it with great thanks and then laughed when my secret Santa shrugged off her anonymity to request whether her husband could borrow the book once I've finished reading it! Ps - She's old enough to be me mum!

What's in the extended version? I got the 900 page version and it's already quite detailed. BTW, quite lovin' it.

LOL Is Beatles in America recommended? The Beatles In America is highly recommend. This his third in a series of 'The Beatles in' books with Liverpool and Hamburg being the other two. All are excellent and make a great set. I hoping there is going to be The Beatles in the Rest of Europe, The Beatles in the Far East and The Beatles in Australia being the completist I am! However I think that might be hoping too much!!

I'm at the point where the 'boys' have just arrived in London in June '62 in the unusually warm English summer. And it's very interesting that it was because of affairs, easily offended execs., and a number of unlikely and irritating events that got the Beatles their recording contract. Surely just an accident if there ever was one. AND, that this was what prodded the Lennon/McCartney partnership to start writing songs again. At the risk of spoiling the story for the rest, imaging the non-event if Brian had gone ahead and made an independently financed LP licensed to Polydor.... IF George hadn't been sparking Judy etc etc.... So it almost WASN'T a slow build up to fame. It was a period of a year or two being stalled creatively and professionally and then explosion into what we know as The Beatles. My question is,,,,again,,,,,what the HECK is included in the extra 800 or so, pages of the special edition? ?

The only error I found in Mark's book so far was him referring to Rory Storm's house as 'Hurricanville' instead of 'Stormville'. I can't find anyone calling it that. Maybe in the second edition he'll change it. Also was Sir Paul's song a jibe at Mark's book with this song? They both came out at about the same time. The line: "Now everybody seems to have their own opinion who did this and who did that, but as for me I don't see how they can remember when they weren't where it was at"
