Back again ! Hey ! hold that date change !
Mingus - Joni Mitchell (1979)
Love Joni . No , I adore Joni ! She`s a brilliant Singer , song writer , not a bad painter , wonderful straight as a dye woman and even likes Cats . This album as far I may have spotted is that it`s a tribute to the Jazz artist Charlie Mingus . Don`t think I`ve ever got through this album . I don`t like Jazz . And I still don`t . I guess this album is a bit like Lennon`s Rock n Roll album A tribute to his hero`s . I did struggle with Joni`s albums after Hejira and into the 80`s it did`nt get any better . But I have got through the album and it just is not for me . Stand Out Track. God Must Be A Boogie Man .

Did you know he has a new album out ? He has y`know ! So I thought . I`ll give it a review . Now this may be a shock to you , but I don`t think I`d liked a McCartney album since Flowers In The Dirt . In fact , I really have stayed clear of everything he doe`s since...After Off The Ground . I did buy Flaming Pie and the other one with the upside down writing on it ... I forget the name , yes , it was that one with him in his back garden back in the day .. I did listen to Egypt Station and I was a bit shocked as it was`nt that bad . There is a review on here somewhere . So folks I`m not a fan of Paul`s new stuff , in fact not even his live stuff . It`s his voice y`know , it`s shot to pieces in my humble But here we go ...And remember I`ll be honest and this will be my very first listen , which is`nt going to bode well with me I can imagine , but I may be wrong ? McCartney III - Paul McCartney (2020) Spotify . Long Tailed Winter Bird . An Instrumental ! With a bit of Macca ... Vocals It was alright . Find My Way Bit strange , but it sounded like an Eels song Very much like an Eels track ! It was alright . Pretty Boys. I don`t know what to make of this one , but if I listen to this album again , I think I`d skip this one . Not keen Women And Wives I have this thing that when I hear a song I like my foot starts to involuntary tap away Nothing happened on this . bit of a relief when it finished . Nah . Lavatory Lil This would have fitted nicely on Neil Young`s Shocking Pinks album ( that`s not a compliment btw.) Nope Deep Deep Feeling . I took a few deep deep breathes while listing to this ( not a compliment btw ) Terrible and it was a long track, and to think I thought this man walked on water back in the day . Slidin` I`m now coming to the conclusion this album is not for me . It`s a rocking track with Paul`s vocal`s ruining it The Kiss Of Venus Terrible . Seize The Day No comment Deep Down. I know Paul`s not a drummer , but he really should give Ringo a call . Really awful song I really need a valium now Winter Bird / When Winter Comes Not bad actually and his voice is`nt bad at all . Like this one . Overall . I don`t think I`ll be buying 10 different colours or how ever many ones they are . It`s really sad that Macca has to do stuff like that just to squeeze extra money out of his loyal fans . Remember when the Fabs would record a B side so the fans did`nt get cheated with a album track . I also think that the pre order thing is a bit naughty . I`d be a bit naffed if I`d pre ordered this album before I heard it . But I`m a wise ol` Owl and I did`nt think for one minute that this album would be something I`d be playing a lot or at all . This is my own opinion and I have to be honest , yes , I throw in a bit of humor in , as after all I`m no expert and hearing an album once is not really a fair way to review an album . So then. I`d love to hear your thoughts on the album and if you would like to give me some stick about my review . I can take it ! I know we should be very grateful that Paul is still recording . And there are many fans I guess will love this album Uncut gave it 4 thumbs up Is that out of 10 ? I hope so . 55. Well i finally got the CD in the mail. Just in time before 2020 ended and along with all the other bad stuff of that year. Let me put it this way, if Paul had not been a Beatle in prior life I would not have bought it. For a songwriter whose lite bulb had shown so bright in the Beatle years and after 'Band On the Run' it seems to have burned out! I can't think of one song after that that I found any good and hummed after i listened to it. This CD will be with all the others that he has done since, lying on a shelf. I did notice that he gave credit to George Martin as engineere on the last song. Now George passed away in 2016, so has Paul had these other songs just lying around and popped them on CD to appease his fans? Like Mr. K I'll give this a 4/10, and no thumbs up.

Nice to have your honest opinion Rocky Well folks its brand new album of 2021 !. Not technically, this year , it should have come out last year , and of course the powers that be have been releasing songs of it for ages, so technically some of these songs are not my first of the hearing . Anyway , I`ll get on with it . The Future Bites - Steven Wilson ( 2021 ) Spotify I love this man , in a manly way of course . This man has released the best albums( Raven Refused...Hand Cannot Erase)for 20 or so years and there are only 2 albums that have been in my 11/ 10 albums that have been up they are Kate`s Aerial and the bloody brilliant O.K. Computer . The man seems to have upset a few Prog purists with his last album ( To The Bone ) because it was`nt Prog enough . Well Prog purists (No. no reader , I`m not one !) you aint going to like this one . Don`t you hate reviews that say "It sounds like " Well, I have to say it .. It sounds like Radiohead meets E.L.O. with just a hint of ABBA (More so disco ?) A few stand out moments The 2 opening tracks Self and Unself really set the tone of the album , having said that I`m guessing there is a concept going on somewhere . Barring the E.L.O. sounding 12 Things I forgot and the touch of disco beats sneaking in , I think I`m going to grow to like this . This man is my favorite artist at the moment and I`ve seen him 4 times in the space of a few years , and I also have a ticket for the upcoming tour of this album . He is a very talented man and you got to hold your hand up when he doesn`t sit on his laurels and hardy and just stick to the status quo . I havn`t bought this album yet as I`m holding on for the bells and whistles release which will come along soon . I`m really looking forward to hearing this on the headphones also. And if you havn`t heard Mr Wilson and you like your Prog you have to hear the masterpiece Hand .Cannot . Erase . The Sgt. Pepper of the 21st Century in my humble . Stand Out Track. Eminent Sleaze 46

Famous Last Words - Supertramp (1982) Spotify .
The ramble bit ( Scroll down if you`ve had a long day )
It`s Monday and I had a ponder today on bands that I adored so much back in the day and I just never seemed to have the complete catolugue Supertramp are one of them . It all started with Dreamer on T.O.T.P. Loved it so much I bought the single and as soon as I could afford it bought Crime Of The Century ( I have reviewed this masterpiece a few pages back ) and the Breakfast In America and then Crisis What Crisis but never got round to Even At The Quietest Moments and did`nt get Paris as my then girlfriend had it . ( I`m Mancunian ) But hey ! After I`d played Breakfast a thousand times the band released a new album ! And the single of it was the It`s Raining Again . Not bad ! I bought the album . And after many plays , I didn`t like the album . (I blame the decade ) But here I am 39 years on and with the wonderful technology I can listen to it again and see if I was a bit rash and not given it the time and patience. So then ..
Stop Scrolling here !!
Crazy The first track I remember it so I must have liked it Was it a single ? Followed by the Put On Your Old Brown Shoes and It`s Raining Again . Not great songs I was used to with this incredible band Then it`s all down to songs I don`t remember . Know Who You Are . this has that classic Supertramp feel , I liked this one . My Kind Of Lady . Do you remember that God awful film Arthur with Dudley Moore ? This song would fit perfect on the soundtrack ( That`s not a good thing ) C`est Le Bon Just sounds very flat , it has the 12 strings and the high vocal thing they do , but it`s no Give A Little Bit Waiting So Long . Again very weak , so much so they throw in some heavy band stuff which of course doesn`t save the song . Don`t Leave Me Now . This is one I have listened to over my You Tube years , do like this one I guess I never got to the end of side two to appreciate it . Not up there with all the earlier stuff but it has that melancholy only the Tramp do so well . Stand Out Track . Know Who You Are .
Not long after this album Hodgson left the band and I guess when one of your main song writers leaves the band are going to suffer and by heck they did on listening over the years to the other albums . I guess with the world wide success of Breakfast they would be in the "How the hell do we follow that ?!" mode . They never did . I can see why this album didn`t appeal to me back then , but it was that time when Rock was on the way out and boys with keyboards and more importantly make up was all the rage . A sad ending for a brilliant band.

Bare Wires - John Mayall`s Blues Breakers (1968 ) YouTube
It`s Mayall`s last last album with the Blues Breakers and a young Mick Taylor replacing Peter Green . What could go wrong ? I can`t find anything going right on this album . The first side was the Bare Wires suite and it was a just a complete waste of time in my humble Side 2 we get again very below par songs for a man with a great talent for his own unique take on Blues . I don`t think many plays would make it better and I even came to the conclusion not to even post my thoughts Shame .

Hello ! This popped up on YouTube 2 days ago . Holyground - Astral Navigations (1970) YouTube . Well ! The title it`s showing up on Y.T. is "Same" , but I`ve tried to get some info on the band and it`s Holyground , I think . Finding out about this band is a bit vague, but they are a English band . Anyway , it`s freakin excellent ! Loved it from the off It`s a folky psychedelic acid rock and my word it`s good, I must investigate the other albums . So much so I`ve bought it off the internet ! BTW . The track listing is a bit confusing, but it`s matters not Stand Out Tracks ! Today ( North Country Cinderella ) /Tomorrow / Country Lines / Boogie Music 43

I got the above album today !
The guy (or gal) who posted it on Y.T. I think his English isn`t great (check out his reply to me on comments) and I think when he puts "Same " I have gathered he/she means it`s self titled . Now I`ve cleared that up it`s time for a brand new album from the bloody wonderful Staves . By a sheer miracle I managed to get a ticket for a warm up show last year , it was superb ! So I`m a big fan and I`ve heard the singles off this album , so not my first listen on a few tracks .
Good Woman - The Staves (2021) Spotify .
Kicks off with the album title track which I`ve heard a few times now , it`s a nice catchy tune Best Friend again the same vain . Careful, Kid . Interesting one this , sounds like they wanted to do an "Indie" tune , I reckon it was written for the band they seem to have in tow these days . Next Year ,Next Time. This is The Staves sound on this one with the beautiful harmonies, just needs to turn down the instruments for me . Nothings Gonna To Happen . No big band sound on this one and it`s The Staves I love and finally a acoustic in play . Beautiful song . Sparks . Again are more stripped back song from the last few songs , and again the lush harmonies Paralysed . With a Banjo and a slide guitar this again is a classic Staves . Like this one . Devotion Again wonderful sound of the three ladies , and as much the songs may not be strong they seem to carry it to another level Failure . The bands back on this one, and this feels like the weakest song I`ve heard so far. Sounds like a filler ? Satisfied . Again with the band and it would be so much better with less going on , sometimes less is more for me . Trying . A kinda of almost a acapella song which is short and sweet , I need to hear this one again . Waiting For Me To Change A Piano is the main instrument with Jessica more upfront on this and she has the voice that would make even Kiss albums almost worth buying . Beautiful
Well overall it`s a good album , would have loved more folkie tracks on it , but that`s me But as with all The Staves albums they are growers , and more plays I guess the songs will become stronger in time . Stand Out Track . Nothings Gonna To Happen .

There`s The Rub - Wishbone Ash ( 1974 ) Spotify
A band that really did`nt get my attention when I was getting into Rock bands in the 70`s they seemed to be what Geography teachers would have on there 8 tracks in there Tr 7`s .
But I would end up seeing them at Reading Rock Festival in 81 . They did`nt past the test .
But hey ho , lets have some Wishbone ! Not bad , but not great , very much as I expected really , very A.O.R and very ordinary rock songs . The opener Silver Shoes was ok and then it did`nt really get my attention until the last track F.U.B.B. which was an almost 10 minute long guitar jam . Did like this one ! But as I say in an almost regular occurrence, you can`t go off the first hearing . But as I may say in a often occurrence . I don`t think I will be going back to this one .
41 .
Rory Gallagher - Rory Gallagher ( 1971 )
I thought I`d do a Rory Gallagher , as this album pops up in the greatest year in Rock . 1971 . Not technically his debut , but what an album to start your solo career . Wonderful album , it`s one his best in my humble , with so many great albums to come in his peak in the middle 70`s Just a perfect album , it has even got a blue grass bluesy track on it that works . But the cream rises at the top with I Fall Apart and For The Last Time . An album that has to be heard if your looking for a Gallagher album to get you into him . Top album . Stand Out Track For The Last Time .

United State Of Mind - United State Of Mind (2020) Spotify
Who ? You may ask . Well it`s Robin Trower Max Priest and Livingston Brown . It`s a very laid back funky soul album with the incredible guitar sound of Trower . What`s it like ? I am surprised how good it is considering the other two blokes who are in the group are far from my radar I just know Priest just by his name . Got to say this is a good album and it just has that feel of Trower`s last few brilliant albums . This man is .. The man and as I`ve said before and I`ll say it again He has no right in releasing incredible stuff so late in his career and to bring something like this to his no doubt his very solid fan base are probably Blues purists the man no only got balls he`s got soul . Stand Out Track . Sunrise Revolution

Surf`s Up - The Beach Boys (1971) Spotify
Now then . Don`t get me wrong I love The Beach Boys , but when it comes to the fillers I really struggle Take that legendary Pet Sounds ,which so happens is the only other Beach Boys album that is a none Hits album I`ve listened to . It`s not very good , in fact it has to be the most overrated album in the history in music , but that`s just my opinion . So I thought I`d go for broke and try another B.B. album . And now I wish I hadn`t . Yes folks it`s so bad that it makes Pet Sounds sound like...Pet Sounds
Just the opener alone sets the bar so low a ant would bang it`s head
Don`t Go Near The Water . It should be a warning for the rest of the album , Don`t go any further It`s bad , it`s so bad it grates on you and it`s under two minutes long I`d love to go on about how dire it is but that means I`d have to go back to it and I aint doing that for love or money But there is one song that really really I thought was so bad that I thought it was a comedy track . Take A Load Of Your Feet . with lines of.. And Be careful of what you eat . Anyway, overall I didn`t like it . This can not be in no way the same band that had such wonderful songs in the 60`s God only knows what the hell happened . Stand Out Track Disney Girls (1957) . Maybe the best of the rest

And there the Kite has demolished yet another album loved by many. ME included. LOL. Thank you In my defence I have only listened to it once . But as I said above I found it really naff and very , very below average especially coming from a legendary band . I always remember listening to The Beach Boys best of`s on my homemade portable stereo almost every night in the summer of 78 with the gang on the main road waiting for the ladies go by. They are a part of my youth and I don`t have a issue with them . But then I heard Pet Sounds and that really put me off ever going further with them . As you all may have spotted that there was another band I was seriously into around the 70`s called The Beatles . Not much of a competition when you throw those boys into your life . As for the Surf`s Up album . It`s full of very short under 4 minute songs with just one going over the 4 minute mark . Now you may point out that that does n`t have any significance to a good song . Very true . Take Revolver for example . Every song is around that mark . You can safely say that ever song is either catchy , clever, brilliantly written and very unforgettable from the off They all make up one of the greatest albums ever recorded . Surf`s Up has nothing of that going for it . The songs that stood out were the ones that were.. ( I`ve now gone to google as I`ve washed away the memory of this afternoons listen) Very ...Poor ( now I`ve gone to the album ) It makes The Monkees sound good and Mr Wilson should have added more sand in his parlor and buried that piano Nope sorry I can`t go through it again ! So to sum up For a band that had been around I reckon 10 years and come up with that , sorry it`s bobbins One thing though it makes Let It Be sound like a masterpiece . Exhibit A . Can anyone tell me this is a good song ? Foot note. It peaked at no 29 in the US and 15 in the U.K. Not loved by everyone then . Anyway ! Thanks for the feedback Amadeus As you know I love a good debate and as always these thought`s are all my own and pretty honest . Anyone played Macca 3 again yet ? I`ll be back ..

I spent the time overnight wondering about this LP, and the track posted by Mr Kite. I think the 1970's were not the kindest to The Beack Boys (Lady Linda's a lovely track). The Dennis Wilson solo LP seems to have some traction as well. Never heard that specific LP or that track and immediately thought. Tracks like The Left Banke's - Walk Way Renee with its baroque charm and What's Going On by Marvin Gaye, and much of Kate Bushes out put managed to harness the same message in a more timeless fashion. I think TBB as a singles band were amazing and Pet Sounds is wonderful. I think Brian's mental health issues and the fact that they were growing up led to a strange hinterland for the band. I think this also corelated with the emergence of the Laurel Canyon era of songwriter.
However those voices are still anmazing even on weaker tracks.
By the way even if you do not like Pet Sounds it led to Sergant Pepper.

Thanks for your input Pothos ! I`m glad my posts have got you wondering , that`s good news ! I love nothing more than a good discussion on Music Plus I mean to post much more regular and hopefully get a good debate going As for this and many albums , it`s not fair to review on one listen and maybe I could grow to love the album I`m listening to for the first time . One prime example for me was Radiohead`s The Bends . My O`l mate lent the CD when it came out and he told me this was a brill album and I`d love it . I played it , played it again and after a week or so I didn`t like it But skip a few weeks and I was watching MTV one late night and Fake Plastic Trees came on The light bulb came on and I finally got what they were about . Since then I have all there albums and thankfully I got to see them live even though I was half a mile away in Manchester Arena . Not the best way to watch a band . Anyway . There are albums like that . But Surf`s Up isn`t one of them . Very basic pop songs are not growers in my humble , pop songs have to hit you in an instant , lets say like Please Please Me . You hear that right away your sold . Hear Don`t Go Near The Water . Your not lifting the needle back to hear that again . As for Pet Sounds As Amadeus will testify I have no love for this album . It`s not The Beach Boys or even the album . It`s the fact that people seem to come up with this idea that it`s one of the greatest albums of all time and my made up person in the sky it`s in fact the greatest album of all time . Of course I know for a fact that it`s not even in my best 100 of all time As you say and many people do It influenced the fabs to record Pepper . I disagree as it`s only Macca who seems to bring it up . Having competition with another band and making you come up with a better album isn`t really an influence , it`s competition . The Stones didn`t make great albums , but it seems like the Beach Boy`s they could bring out great singles . So Macca didn`t really look to The Stones to rise the bar . Pet Sounds is a album with 2 great songs on it and the rest are mediocre and lets throw in some animal sounds doesn`t make it a masterpiece . Sgt . Pepper is on another planet compared to Pet Sounds . Just my opinion of course Laters !

OHMS - Trees Speak (2020)
Oh heck ! Perusing through You Tube this weekend and I stumbled upon this album ,and with the technology and my son`s Amazon Prime I came home to this album tonight. So it`s my second listen and I still got that tingle when you`ve stumbled on a great album . Who are they ? Well it so happens after a bit of getting off on the wrong foot I ended chatting with there P.R. in Europe and they are a father and son duo Daniel and Damian Diaz from Arizona USA . There music is a Krautrock meets post/ punk psych as it says on the CD sticker . And if you like Can , Neu and the early Tangerine Dream stuff , and I`d say got the elements of Joy Division then you`ll bloody love this album . I`m dying to hear this in the headphones. There are 17 tracks but they effortlessly flow into one another and if it wasn`t for the fact of the track count you wouldn`t have thought they were so many tracks . If I ever make a Sci Fi film this is going to be the soundtrack . I guess you can tell I loved this album . Stand Out Track . Octave Cycle
