Just had a weird experience. Was watching Quantumn of Solace and I had to stop as the editing cuts were so fast (one every three seconds?) that I actually began to feel ill. The plot was ok but I could not watch anymore. Cannot think of another movie I have had that issue with. I agree pothos. I started watching that and the car chase scene had too much going on and gave me a headache. So I turned it off. I don't like movies that have something like that farfetched action that would be impossible to do in real life. It just loses my interest in anything else that happens in the film.

The thing is the cuts were not just during the action scenes but all the way through. I now know why it was a bit of a meh film. If they had corrected that issue it would have been a much stronger movie as the plot would have had light and shade and time to breathe. I got to 45 minutes from the end and it just did not let up.

Welcome to the "cinema of chaos" I really liked "Casino Royale", and rated it in the top three Bond films. Daniel Craig made a good debut, but it was mainly down to the efforts of Martin Campbell, who is an excellent action director. After that, the series has gradually deteriorated, with "No Time to Die" being the worst. It left me not caring who played Bond next, or, even if there will be another film.

I liked Skyfall except for the clunker of the torch being on while the baddies were after them. NTTD is ok (I would place it 3rd) I think the baffling death rate of major characters some who had been woefully underused in this movie was a miss step. I think Casino Royal was a high water mark. Also watching some of the older Bonds boy is the quality all over the shop at times. I still have never seen Die Another Day all the way through and I doubt I ever will. I think Bond works best when he is in real physical peril or suffering (naked chair scene in CR) Trying to hang on to the underside of the lift with his damaged shoulder in Skyfall before the night fight. Invisiable cars et al just do not do it for me. I also think Bond has had to battle the increasing number of action movies Marvel. MI etc. QOS was my least favourite.

Just to move this conversation on. Many years ago I I sat down to watch the Hitchcock version of Psycho. No as strange as it might seem I had no idea of the plot twists and reveals. I thought the first half was amazing concerning the theft of the money by Marion. I was invested in the story. I sort of knew at the time of the shower scene but nothing else so imagine me rivited to the movie until.
'That wig appears as the murder starts'
Unfortunately I fell about laughing. The wig threw me completely out of the film and if my memory serves me well I guessed the rest immediately. I bet I am the only person who had this issue.

I seen that movie when it first came out. My Aunt dragged me to the theater, she was only 19 and I was like 13. I remember the shower scene, my Aunt dug her long fingernails in me she was so frightened! lol Nobody knew that was going to happen. People were actually screaming in the theater, I kid you not!!

I can see why at the time it must have been shocking. Hitchcocks earlier movies like The Lodger (which I have ordered) are supposed to be way more scary. Sabatage and Saboteur are very well regarded.
Another movie I like is Metropolis. Considering it is 100 years old (approx) I marvel at how it looks and how an earth they made it. Emotionally the style of acting is really out of fashion, but all fantasy films owe a debt to it.

That movie came out in 1927. Have you seen 'The Penalty' with Lon Chaney Sr. It was made in 1920. One of the first scary ones made in the US.

I have not seen it so will keep an eye out for it. There are some great early movies. I would love to see some early Louise Brooks movies. I would also love to see the James Whale films of the 1930's love the original Cat People as well.
Other movies I love are
The Boy with Green Hair (RIP Dean Stockwell) Saw this as a little kid and it still feels moving.
Grave of the Fireflies. - Makes me cry This is Spinal Tap - Still funny after all these years Picnic at Hanging Rock - Creepy
Fitzcaraldo - Just bonkers seeing the boat being dragged up a hill Anything by Billy Wilder Bad Timing - Who knew Art Garfunkle could get so dark and twisted. (I like Nic Roeg movies) Withnail and I. - Weirdly funny Dear Frankie - Makes me cry
The Elephant Man - Lynch proving he could be lyrical in style. Both Blade Runners. Studio Ghibli A Matter of Life and Death The Red Shoes Peeping Tom - Way better than Psycho.

Another quick fire films I`ve seen recently .
Spider Man - No Way Home Very enjoyable , and maybe the best of the Tom Holland Spidy films
Nightmare Alley Went to see this at the cinema on a whim as it`s Del Torro film and did`nt know a thing about it as I`m a fan of Del Torro . Turned out that it`s a remake and not the weird and wonderful mind of the Torro ! But still very good and a great cast .
Eternals Another Marvel film and not a great one in my humble . They seem to be getting very "woke" and very below parr
And yes it gets worse ..
Morbius Think of all the Vampire cliches from all the Vampire films you`ve seen and they are all here . I`m sure who ever wrote the script for this film must have just left school and his/her daddy owns Sony . It was pants that`s all I can say .
And ...
The Batman Oh yes ! 4 minutes short of 3 hours of how to do a super hero movie for grown ups ! Absolute cracker and this film will be on my to get list as I want to soak into the dark underworld of Gotham . This film is so dark I don`t think we see the sun in it ! Just brilliant !
Bits of this film was filmed in Liverpool btw !

"Bits of this film was filmed in Liverpool btw !" I took this photo when they were filming at St Georges Hall.... Lots of movies/TV shows use Liverpool for locations, including the "IPCRESS File" currently being screened on ITV.

Game of Throne fans the prequel to it set two hundred years before will be out in Aug. 2022. But don't look for Emilia Clarke to be in it.

Watched your 'Backbeat' review. Thought it was really good. I have the movie on DVD and I'll watch it again tonight. (a little trivia that movie was released on April 14th, 1994. 28 yrs ago!)

Watched your Sherlock review, again very good! Sorry you didn't like Jeremy Brett as a person because his portrayal of Sherlock was pretty good. Sadly Jeremy passed away in 1995 at only 59 from a heart attack.
Thought you might enjoy seeing the first time Sherlock made his film debut in 1900! It's a short film less than a minute. And reproduced here from the original which were those flip cards shown in a hand cranked viewer at the penny arcade.
