Hello Film fan(s)
I really would love to post more than I do on here , but have such a rock n roll life style I don`t get chance .
For the first time in , I think years I did`nt talk Oscars and if you followed the Oscars , you`ll probably know why . Has this really been the worst Nomination year ever ! I think so Come on , hands up who has seen the best pic ? yep , I thought so
The Favourite Olivia Coleman picked up the biggie , but I thought Emma Stone was the star of the film It`s totally bonkers and not for everyone If you have watched The Lobster and The killing Of The Sacred Deer , his other two films I`ve seen (And they are brilliant insane ) then you`ll love it ! Anyway , I have been to see to films in two nights ( see , rock n roll ! )
Last night I was on the red carpet in Manchester to see the Manchester premier of the Doc film Yes , I was with famous people and a Smiths drummer . Being Frank ,The Chris Sievey story
It was quite brilliant . Sad and funny and sad and funny again Such a fabulous story of the man behind the mask
Today Captain Marvel
I`m not really the man to review this as I`d watch Brie make Marmite sandwich`s and I`d give her an Oscar It`s enjoyable romp and Sam Jackson as ever plays the comic The effects are brilliant as ever .
First Man Did`nt get to see this at the Cinema so I bought the Blue Ray It`s as I`d thought it would be More about the man and not the astronaut , but the "Launch " scenes are gripping Not one I`d recommend for your casual film watcher And I got to say I was a bit disappointed

I enjoyed The Lobster; such an odd movie. I suspect I would love The Favourite. I rarely get to see new films I live a fare distance from a cinema so I wait until they are on terrestrial tv. I read once that the Movie business is in a mess 9qulaity wise) because people still make indie movies and blockbusters but the movies in the centre section collapsed and that was where all the movies that did well at awards shows and with the public came from. The collapse was due to the amount spent and companies seeing little profit. This centre section was the part where The Godfather, China Town, When Harry Met Sally, Blade Runner, The Shining and Apocalypse Now came from expensive auteur type movies loved by the critics.

If you liked Lobster , you will love The Favourite Pothos ! It`s sad that The Oscars have been under such scrutiny over the last few years , it`s become a snowflakes paradise that if there are no black nominees there racist etc etc . It really should be left alone , at the end of the day it`s all about quality not , we`d better not offend , such and such . Sad .. Also seen Bohemiam Rapsody which is one of those films that you know it`s not going to win awards and be an all time classic , but it`s really good ! And would you believe it! it won an Oscar !

Yes, people I`m back
I have been on a binge movie watch the last few weeks as I`ve really been distracted from my love of films which is a bummer for me Don`t know if I`ve mentioned it but I now have a Unlimited card for the local Cinema and I really tried to get the most out of it as I`m a Mancunian and we don`t like things going to waste ( It`s called being tight )
Here we go then and I`ll leave my fav of the year to last
The Mule
I`m guessing you know that it`s Clint Eastwood back to acting and Directing As old as this man gets , he just doe`snt let up on quality And this film is quality If you love Clint , you wont be disappointed
The House That Jack Built
A Lars Von Trier film Do I need to go on ? If you not familiar with him then that maybe a good thing Matt Dillon plays a very disturbed serial killer and he plays it quite brilliantly very sick in parts and even an old horror buff like myself I was doing a few head shakings Its dark and disturbing , but it`s a good film
Dr Sleep
I`m a huge Stephen King fan so I`m a bit biased to this one I was a bit nervous as most low budget King films are normally poor But this was a cracker , I loved it and for a sequel to The Shining it was`nt a let down I loved it
I Don`t Feel At Home In This World Anymore ( Netflix )
An oldish film that I`ve been trying to watch for awhile Well folks I`ve watched it twice ! Absolutely loved it I even loved the soundtrack .
IT Chapter 2
Brilliant ! Maybe a wee bit to long with the finale , but just as good as the first It .
Brightburn
What if Superman as a boy turned out to be evil film Enjoyable , but predictable , but well done
Apollo 11
If you think you`ve seen all the moon landing footage to be seen , this film will blow you away If it was`nt for it being a documentary it would be the film of the year A masterpiece
Joker
Dark and intense and that`s just the start Phoenix should be already getting his acceptance speech worked out for the Oscars as it`s in the bag for the best Actor performance Taxi Driver meets King Of Comedy A top film .
Midsommar
As for the film of year This is mine A modern day Wicker Man . I don`t want to go on and on about this film as it is a film your better off just going with the flow And watch the walls Ari Aster blew me away with his first major film Hereditary , but this one raises the bar and some Brilliant .

I watched this movie a couple of days ago, and enjoyed it...
It suffers by comparison with the movies of Shakespeare's Henry V [notably the Olivier version], but than what can compare with our greatest playwright?
It is well worth seeing, with good acting and action scenes.

I recently watched The Irishman...
.... and totally enjoyed it. A masterclass of acting, plus a great director. It was very long, but no problem. Liverpool's own Steven Graham was, as usual, outstanding.
Another film was this...
... I lasted ten minutes before binning it as unwatchable!

Nice one Brewey , on my to watch list
The Nightingale
A very disturbing film for the first part and I guess most of it from then on . Not for the fainthearted , so I advise you wiki it before you watch it , just to give you the heads up
But it`s a superb film in my humble .

I watched "Yesterday" over Christmas, and found it a very warm, funny film. Written by Richard Curtis, a lifelong Beatles fan, who saw them perform live, it is a must-see for forum members.

A couple of films I watched over Christmas, and did not enjoy. Firstly Entebbe is the latest to tell the story of Op Thunderbolt, and by far the worst. This film humanises the two German terrorists as central characters, while making the Israeli politicians unsympathetic schemers. The final assault, the climax to the plot, is filmed in slow motion, intercut with a modern ballet show [I'm not kidding!] The other film, The Wall would be an alternative to watching paint dry, or, grass grow. Boring and unrealistic.

I thought that Paddington 2 along with THE 1947 film , The Bishops Wife (Cary Grant and David Niven) were the best film over the festive period. You could argue that Paddington 2 may even have topped the first Paddington and that was fantastic too. That bear is so adorable and very polite. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000csnj/paddington-2

Love Paddington 2. I also loved Moana (I am a sucker for animation) and oddly watched the Thomas Crown Affair for the first time (Steve McQueen version and loved it). Florence Foster Jenkins was also amazing.

I did enjoy Paddington Anyway ! Don`t know if there is any Film collectors on here , but after Music my next love for collecting stuff is films , Blue Rays , DvD s and now I`ve moved onto 4k`s , which are mind blowing . But the reason I`m here is the sad obsession with the extras and yes I do the commentaries . I just wondered if there is anyone else And what is there fav film that rocks with the extras . Here is one film that is a must for extras is Pulp Fiction . 10/10 . Update . The Rise Of Skywalker It was ok . A good popcorn movie and as I`m not a Star Wars fanatic , I didn`t really go to deep in the why did`nt this happen and why did that happen like the mass of them crazy people did .

Hello Film fan ! It`s almost Oscar season And if you know me , well if you`ve read this post over the years you`ll know I have the Oscars From those ol` days when me and my Ma use to sit up half the night watching our Barry Norman in his evening suit and silky tones would take us through all the drama And so it`s stayed with me and I would be chuffed to know what film won in what year . Can`t really do it these days , it`s to many years that have gone by , but hey Last years Oscar did`nt have me excited and it must be the worse year for me in which I had seen any of the nominations But this year , it`s different I`ve really pushed the boat out and I will be giving my expert predictions for the ol` Oscars . 1917 What a film ! Up for Best Film Oscar . It`s England`s answer to Saving Private Ryan , but without the action Great film and it`s one long shot , not an edit in sight . It`s maybe a marmite and not a film that would be everyone`s cup of tea , but it was brilliantly filmed and I guess Mendes will be a fav for the Best Director Oscar JoJo Rabbit Another War film and another film up for best Oscar A truly wonderful heart warming film with a twist that you don`t see coming Not the funniest film you`ll ever see , but it will have you laughing and crying in a breadth The Oscars are going to be interesting this year for sure Got my ticket booked for next week for yet another Oscar nominee Parasite See you laters !

The Irishman 2019 Yep I had to do two sittings 2 hours then an Hour and a half But it was in my Oscar homework , so I got through it , but to be fair I enjoyed the most of it Once you get past the de aging silliness it`s a good story I heard someone say that its Scorsese`s best film No way ! It`s just an average film with actors who have past their sell by date . Parasite 2019 Wow ! It really is unfair to talk about this film and as you may have spotted , I don`t do spoilers But the film must be seen without a clue what it`s all about Brilliant film a brilliant screenplay is brilliant , all the actors are brilliant it`s brilliant ! Will it win the Best film Oscar ? It`s in the running for sure The Lighthouse 2019 Had a hell of a lot of plaudits and another weird film from the man who brought us Witch (which is a hell of a film ) I kind of enjoyed it in parts and I could see the love for the film But most of the dialogue was a bit tough to pick up as it was ol` English and thankfully it did`nt really matter as it`s not a plot driven film The thing that stood out for me though was William Defoe`s acting It was incredible , I reckon his finest acting he`s ever done in my humble A good film , but not for everyone Be back tomorrow with my Oscar predictions , should be fun ! But before that , I`m off to the cinema to watch Bird Of Prey . Wish me luck

I missed out Jo Jo Rabbit review , it`s superb ! Knives Out , superb Birds Of Prey , it`s awful ! Right , lets get to it , I`m excited ! Oscars 2020 . The prediction BitMy predictions as the best of what I`ve seen and some I`ve guessed . Best Film Ok , I`ve really done a fair few of this years films , 6 out of 9 . So I should at least have a good chance of getting it right . I`m going to stick my neck out and go with .. The Joker . I`m thinking the Oscar crew will go 1917 My Kite Film of the year shout is`nt even in the running . Midsomer Best Actor . Joaquin Phoenix Easy one (?) Best Actress Tricky one as I hav`nt seen any of them ! But I`m going with Renee Zellweger Best Supporting Actor . Easy one again Brad Pitt . Best Supporting Actress . Tricky again , just seen one , our Scarlett But I reckon Laura Dern Cinematography . Easy . 1917 . Best Director . Going on a limb here with Bong Joon Ho Visual Effects Avengers Endgame . Screen Play . Parasite Best International Film Parasite . There we have it . I can`t do them all as it`s tough when you hav`nt seen the job lot . My shout for best Actress is another non runner and that`s Florence Pugh . Strange how the Oscars work , but she really is fantastic in Midsommar And that`s it folks Back tomorrow to see how I`ve done

8 predictions out of 10 I`m a bit shocked and stunned that the Oscar folks went with Parasite ! It was a nailed on for Best International , but also go with Best film . Amazing ! and it is so worthy and if you check out my review , you can see I bloody love it . Anyway .. It`s looking like a decent year for films and more importantly Sci Fi /Superheroes We`ve got a new Dune another A Quite Place and New Mutants , Black Widow and from Chris Nolan Tenet But I don`t think I`ll see The Invisible Man . Laters !

Good call on the Oscar results, Mr K. I'm currently reading Some Kind of Hero: The Remarkable Story of the James Bond Films, an enormously detailed history of the franchise. There is a complete history of the various writers and draft plots.... and if you thought some of the Bond plots were hokey you should see what they rejected! Similarly, whenever a new star was required, the replacements seriously considered by the producers were jaw dropping. For example, Michael Gambon! The book is a goldmine for any Bond fan, and I'm deriving real pleasure from reading it.

Cheers Brewy ! Good heads up on the Bond book . A friend of mine has been reading the Christopher Lee autobiography book Lord Of Misrule . He said it`s not great and doe`snt get into his career until almost the end of the book . So give that one a miss I hav`nt read too many Film books , I just tend to buy Film mags and I do and some ! But I do have one lined up which is called The Golden Age Of Science Fiction Which is the 50`s . Lookin to that when I get chance ! Here are a few of my all time fav films from ..The 50`s The Day The Earth Stood Still Forbidden Planet The Thing From Another World Invasion Of The Body Snatchers This Island Earth . The Fly It was indeed the golden age
