I watched "The Day the Earth stood Still" as a kid, and the scene where Klaatu first emerges from the spacecraft scared us. Another scary Sci-fi was the series Quatermass, and the title music [Mars] used to get my heart pounding...
A movie was produced based on the series. Another Sci-fi series was "The Trollenberg Terror" [released internationally as "The Crawling Eye"]
I can't believe just how hokey this was!

For movie fans, a couple of books give real insights into the process of making films. Adventures In The Screen Trade: A Personal View of Hollywood by William Goldman, who wrote Marathon Man and Butch Cassidy, amongst many other films. A point he makes is that, in Hollywood "“Nobody knows anything..... not one person in the entire motion picture field knows for a certainty what’s going to work” For example, producers were surprised when movies such as The Godfather, Star Wars and Love Story were massive hits. During production the studios had predicted that they would bomb. Similarly, as revealed in the James Bond book I mentioned earlier, the producers hated some of the title songs, in particular "Goldfinger" and "Live and Let Die", which were of course massive hits. A book which gives insights into the "Golden Age of Hollywood" is The Moon's a Balloon the autobiography of David Niven, whose life went from being a British Army officer, to an extra in Hollywood, then a major international star. Some truly funny anecdotes decorate this story, by one of our best loved actors.

Bait
Like Music , films are at the end of the day are all about personal choice and opinions .
So then the reason I watched this film was because of the critics raving and drooling over this said film
"One of the defining British films of the decade " The Guardian
"Bait blends a classic aesthetic with timely themes to produce a thrillingly original and uniquely enriching drama " 100% .Rotten Tomatoes
"Not only the best film of the year , but the decade" . Mark Kermode
"This has got to be the most irritating , badly acting in some if not most parts and most annoying silly pointless story I`ve come across since Lost In Translation " - Mr Kite .
Set in Cornwall , it`s about a fisherman who has no boat because there is more money in the tourists trade , his mate who seems to own the boat takes out stag do`s and that`s about it Oh , his car gets clamped so he has to walk to deliver his fish he catches with his nets .
The drama of it all !
And we get lots of shots of dead fish , dying fish , the "epic" ending in the first five minutes and its filmed in black and white .
Shocking indeed .

I'll be giving Bait a miss then! Another sci-fir series from early TV was this...
The main writer was a noted Astro-physicist, Fred Hoyle,

Good plan .
Back again with a few more reviews and a ol` fav of mine .
Cloud Atlas ( 2012 )
If you want a film that will have you hanging on every last word that is going on then this film will blown you away It`s 6 stories set in different time lines and even a different world A wonderful sci fi / Drama and even so a love story . And an incredible cast ,Tom Hanks and Halle Berry , and the wonderful Doona Bae Complex , yes , but really worth staying on until the end that really is a great pay off I know , I don`t make sense , but I don`t want to spoil it . Co Directed by the Wachohowskis ( The Matrix ) and Tom Tykwer Love this film and it`s a shame that it`s been lost in the Sci Fi genre of classics
High Life ( 2018 )
It`s a Sci Fi folks Where to start on this one We have Robert Pattinson on a space ship alone with his baby daughter and we start to get to find out how he ended up on the ship and what happened to the crew . We found that the crew all convicts and with a crazy doctor are figuring out if it`s possible to have babies in space and what are black holes are all about . Yep , it`s bonkers and I think I need to watch it again just to see what the hell did I miss !
I Lost My Body (2019)
A french animation film about a Hand who escapes from a lab and sets off on a journey through Paris to get back to it`s body . What a wonderful film ! Some people may have been put off by the fact it`s animation , but it really could`nt have been made any other way A truly moving film that really needs to be seen .

Cloud Atlas is an astonishing movie. I watched it a couple of months ago. It is a challange but what struck me was the fact that all actors seem to have a level of typcasting during their careers. Who knew Tom Hanks could play a sweary Irishman to such a level that I did not realise it was him. The same for Hugh Grant whose role as the Kona Cheif, pivital to a certain plot line and a great deal of screen time but I did not recognise him. I think this film will gain a better reputation in the decades to come. It moved me tears, Ben Wishaw's Cloud Atlans sextext and Sonmi - 451 waitress moved me to tears, and for me were the strongest threads although I enjoyed all. A truly outstanding movie.Rocky you will need clost to 4 hours to to relax an denjoy the ride of this movie but I think it is worth the effort. I think the running time is what stopped poeple go to see it, not the quality.

I think the length was the reason is did not do well at the box office I was at home watching on DVD and it was a slog so at the movies it would be difficult. It needs a break in the middle where you got an ice cream as a kid but cinemas do not do that now.By the way where did they place the breaks Rocky.

At my work where i sell West End theatre shows we now have Prince of Egypt which is based on the 1956 film , The 10 Commandments which ran for 3 hours and 40 minutes. Amazing cast , Charlton Heston , Yul Brynner and one of my favourite actors , Edward G Robinson(stars were proper stars back then ). I give you parting of The Red Sea, what must audiences have made of this back then.

By the way where did they place the breaks Rocky? The site I watched it on only let you watch only one hour daily. So it was stopped at each hour no matter what was happening. lol I remember when Dylan's "Renaldo & Clara" movie came out in 1978 of the Rolling Thunder Review Tour. It was released at 4 hours!! (232 mins.) After it was snubbed by critics Dylan had it edited down to 2 hours cutting out mostly all the acting scenes. And it was still panned as a loser. So it finally faded away and has never been released commercially. UPDATE: I just spotted a bootleg copy of the four hour movie on eBay and bought it. lol *Here's my thoughts on bootleg anythings. If the companies that own the rights were genius' they would release the stuff and there would be no need for bootlegs!!! But they would rather spend more money paying lawyers to go after bootleggers than it would be to release the stuff they have.

Sad to hear of the death of Max von Sydow, who feautured in several great movie roles. He played the interrogator Oktober in this spy film..
... and was superb as an assassin in this...

Having read Mark Kermode's books where he clearly rates The Exorcist as his top film, I watched that documentary. Mr Kite is spot-on, it's brilliant. Mark Kermode has also written The Exorcist (BFI Modern Classics), which will appeal to all fans of the movie.

Excellent Mr. K, thx for sharing that one!!! Jason Miller who played Father Damien Karras I thought gave an excellent performance in that movie. He died in 2001 at the age of 62.

Back for more No Spoiler reviews film fans !
Crawl 2019
Not had great reviews , but that really doe`snt mean anything after I sat through Bait . I really enjoyed it and if you enjoyed Shallows , you`ll love this big Alligator romp . I did .
Color Out Of Space 2019
It`s a H.P. Lovecraft adaptation and Nicolas Cage is in it
That has now got rid of a few people , I`ll carry on If you have seen Annihilation , then you have watched the adaptation of this story . Still with me ? Over the many years film of adapts of H.P. Lovecraft hav`nt really not done the stories justice as they are "Out There " But well reanimate my half dead cat ! this one`s a winner ! It`s done brilliantly and really hits the spot for a cosmic horror that even makes Cage`s bonkers acting make sense . Loved it !

What would Cage's best performance be. I think;
Peggy Sue Got Married. Birdy. Leaving Las Vegas (not sure if I like the film). Wild at Heart. Adaptation.
