I never went to raves lived too far away from anything really interesting but read all the music papers (remember them!) and listed to the radio constantly so was always up on the music. Great band. Also Kate was sampled by Utah Saints on 'Something Good' so she had rave connections however tenuous.

This scene for me was psychedelia with a dance beat , it was the 2nd Summer Of Love . I'd always looked on with envy when you saw film of Woodstock and the peace and love thing in the sixties and was always thinking , why do we not have anything like this, then Acid House happened (a bit mad but not completely my thing), the rave scene was my cup of tea , 10 hours of pandemonium. And remember i hated the eighties and in particular the dance scene, slow tepid music full of drunks . You just needed to be lucky and have one friend that got this music and took you along once, then like me you'd be hooked.

Hal Blaine of the Wrecking Crew passed away on March 11th 2019 aged 90. I believe that is why BBC 4 repeated the Beach Boys documentary on Pet Sounds which he played on in 1966.
If you look at his drumming credits he spans some of the greatest music ever produced and Ringo Starr even posted a message of sympathy. A truly great talent.

What a genius and very sad to read of his passing. John Peel was a massive fan of his and I am sure that is where I first heard his records.
RIP to Mr Dale. Great Photo.

Scott Walker sadly passed away today. As one of the Walker Brothers he had several hits in the Sixties, before a noted solo career.
RIP Scott

I just read about it and am deeply saddened. His work was genuinely ground-breaking and that voice was sublime.
One of my all time favourite tracks.

A shame another one gone. R I P Scott. A little known fact for those that haven't followed the Walker Bros. is that they really weren't brothers. That was just their stage names. Scott Engel, John Maus and Gary Leeds were their real names. I only found this out when I was building my Jeff Beck replica Esquire that he used in The Yardbirds and that he had bought it from John Maus of the Walker Bros.

Can't say i was a fan of his solo stuff as i wasn't really aware of it. I'd assumed he'd had a couple of hits then disappeared when the hits dried up , i only new his Walker Brother hit , The Sun ain't gonna shine anymore(written by producer Bob Crowe and Bob Gaudio of The Four Seasons fame. How wrong i was , it seems he had built up a cult following over the years with his bleak sparse and mournful music . I've just played Farmer in the city and it has something about it , not sure i could listen to a lot of it but i've forwarded this track onto my supervisor who is also a conductor/composer, he only knew The Walker brother hit i mentioned but i'll be interested to hear what he thinks , i think he'll be intrigued.

From what I gather Scott Walker was way more of a significant solo artist here in the UK. Reading the chart entry of his solo work the majority were massive hits. Nightflight influences Bowie and I find Tilt difficult but fascinating. BBC 6 Music has been playing his hits and solo output all day. Many tributes from the likes of Radiohead, Jarvis Cocker and Marc Almond. 6 Music have a interview in the early hours and I think later tonight 6 music is doing a full tribute.

Rankin Rogers of The Beat passed away yesterday at the age of 56.
So many of the artists I enjoyed as a kid are leaving us. Truly we are in the twighlight of the gods.

Here is a clip from last year when they played in the USA.
I think their are echo's of Belle and Sebastian and OMD. Great chemistry between them and given time I wonder what they woulf have done. There are much outpouring from many young bands who loved them and as BBC 6 Music has its yearly festival in Liverpool at the moment the shock is immense.
