Yesterday Spencer Leigh devoted the major part of On the Beat to the best covers of Buddy Holly songs. Spencer has a new book out Buddy Holly: Learning the Game and is giving a talk on it at Waterstones Liverpool One soon.

Really sad about his passing. I think they were a truly underrated band. I watched the show as a kid but as I grew you realise that their music was far from bubble-gum. Complex and referencing the west coast scene of the 1960's it has stood the test of time.
RIP Peter.

That band was one of the first that was actually put together. They went down and auditioned for their parts. Most of the early songs were done by session men and they just dubbed their guitar playing on tv. Mike Nesmith was probably the only established guitar player. Davy Jones couldn't do anything except sing and bang on a tambourine. Like the Beatles you have the drummer and one guitar player left.

I was shocked and saddened when i noticed on my Facebook feed that Mark Hollis of Talk Talk has died. I know Talk Talk were popular on this forum, they were a serious band for people who take their music seriously. The Colour Of Spring and Spirit of Eden are masterpieces. R.I.P Mark your music will live on .

I am so shocked. Talk Talk were one of those acts that had new romantic pop roots with Today and Talk Talk and like the Beatles got better and better. Also his desire to just walk away from the music scene is fascinating. A voice that will linger long in the memory.

Yes i remember they were bracketed with New Romantics , then The Colour of Spring came out and that completely changed their perception, they'd become a serious rock band with jazz elements . A wonderful band. Hollis had such a great voice and wrote such poetic lyrics, unfortunately the lyrics with his albums were written in longhand in tiny writing and hard to decipher .

I bad enough that the Bowie era is disappearing but this is the era below and is scary. They were the bands I grew up with. RIP Andy.

what a horrible week. Just learned that Keith from The Prodigy has died at the age of 49, so young. Annie Nightingale has just tweeted "The most truly exiting band to see since The Who , i've seen both and i agree wholeheartedly.

I just heard about an hour ago. Cannot believe such a powerhouse has gone. Only 49 years old.
Shocked and saddened.
RIP Keith.

I heard through one of my ex neighbours who worked for Cookin Vinyl that Liam on instagram said he killed himself, which is true is doubly sad. You can prepare for rock starts that you grew up with dying at an old age but Keith was only 49.

The song and video that terrified a nation. RIP Keith. Yes i mentioned to DJ Billy Daniel Bunter that Keith was like a modern day Johnny Rotten, apparently the BBC got lots of complaints when they showed the video for Firestarter. There's a full page article in today's Times, the opening paragraph says, Every generation needs it's iconoclastic provocateurs whose music is guaranteed to generate parental shouts of "Turn that music down" (previously the Pistols in my house...and substitute music for rabble). For those who came of age in the 1990s the role was played with enthusiastic diabolism by Keith Flint and The Prodigy.

love it, especially No Good Start The Dance. check this from 39 mins and 30 seconds from The Prodigy's Worlds on fire tour, Omen Reprise leading into Invaders Must Die. To think i saw and met them at a small club in 1992 to this mega concert . I'd just like to also say , it's great on a Beatles forum that we are discussing a band like The Prodigy.

I think this site is wonderfully open minded and lets you discuss all forms of music (some people must have shook their heads at my RSATH obsession).
One thing I have wondered. Rock has always had that ability to give youth an identity and frighten the adults something The Beatles and The Prodigy had is common along with Bowie, Elvis, The Sex Pistols and many others.

Yes i'm disappointed on the Kate Bush forum that not one comment on Keith's death , i can't believe none of them went clubbing in the nineties. Ravers liked Kate as she was a bit different. I also remember being in the Astoria when this rave tune was playing with a sample of Wuthering Heights, all my friends immediately looked to me. I have a cracking video(yes video ) of The Prodigy which is called "Electronic Punks , which is an apt description of them . The Prodigy have cancelled their tours to America and were down to play Glastonbury again this year. Liam is of course the main man with The Prodigy as he writes all their staff , but they cleverly tailored their live shows to give Maxim and Keith their big moments in the spotlight. I hope they continue to tour but Keith was loved by the fans and will be a huge hole to fill next time they play live.
