I would say that young people of today are into the Beatles but not as much as the youth of the 60's & the 70's for obvious reasons. I would be shocked if there are lots of teenagers that are into the White Album, Abbey Road & Revolver these days. I would bet money that none of them bought or even cared to listen to tracks from Paul's latest album MAF.

We are young, and obviously pretty well totally into the Beatles. That's due to growing up in an evironment that was wall-to-wall Fabs.
But let us tell you what the consensus is among our friends, who also have heard an awful lot of Fabs at our place over the years.
1 Early Stuff, up to 1965. Pretty dire, except for high energy numbers. In other words, ticks for I Saw Her Standing There, Help, Hard Day's Night, Money, I Feel Fine. Forget the soppy stuff: Yesterday, Michelle, Till There Was You.
2 Rubber Soul, Revolver, Pepper, MMT era. Pretty well on the money. Clearly what makes the Beatles great is this era. George Harrison a definite favorite, on a par with Lennon.
3 White Album. Thumbs down, except for a few isolated songs. General feeling is that most WAlbum McCartney numbers are a waste of space, Lennon has a few good numbers, but some are diabolical (B Bill, Julia yecch). Harrison excellent on WAalbum.
4 Abbey Road, Let It Be. Forget it. More or less derided as middle of the road.
Of course all that could be a reflection on the sort of friends we have. IOO, it shows our friends have good taste!

Very interesting thread this, it just reminds me of my first Beatle Week way back in 1995. When apparently there were 12 year olds and even younger in the auditorium of Central Hall, who were clearly enjoying the Cavern Beatles, Solo Years and Bootleg Beatles shows.
Just thought I would mention this, I don't whether anyone would be interested.
This is only my second posting on this particular message board, I like the idea of an easy link to you tube.

I see quite a few folk with Beatles bags I too have seen one or two people with Beatles bags around Basingstoke, flight bag type. I myself have a Beatle bag, a ruck sack or back pack type with a Yellow Submarine on it which I bought in the Beatles Story in 1999. Anyone in Liverpool for that BW, Yellow Sub world premier and Casbah that really was a great one. Oops I'm digressing now, slipping into subject of another thread.

Not completely true. I'm 12, and i like all Beatles music, Yesterday, Let it Be, Eleanor Rigby etc included. Um, what's not completely true? We were talking about the consensus among OUR friends. And what we said is COMPLETELY true. What you probably mean is that what we said about our friends doesn't apply to you. Fine, but we weren't talking about you!

It really is a matter of opinion. I've always been into classical music, but not all of my friends agree with me on that either. Moot point, I suppose. But about the Beatles...sometimes I wonder if kids know and like alot more than they think. Not all kids, but some. Personally, I'm not sure how exactly I picked up on it...I mean, my parents like the music, we never were ones to play music in our house. So I must have gotten into it myself somehow. My most recent obsession with it was certainly my own initiative.
There's such a variety now, it seems like. There's people like me, and then there's people who are the complete opposite of me and listen to things I don't particularly like or can't stand.

I think that young people generally still respect the Beatles from a musical/artistic/creative point of view, even if they don't necessarily like them. The Beatles music and image have changed a lot in such a short space of time. From Hamburg to Beatlemania, Revolver to Sgt Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour, and the tail-end with the White Album and Let It Be. So it may take just one of those facets, and not the entire Beatles discography, to have some impact with young people, and that's all it takes. Some top bands still quote them as an influence to their own beginnings, so the publicity is still there for music fans, D/J's, and new bands starting up.

Very true! Plus, when their back-catalog is finally released on iTunes, it will open their music up to the download generation.

I always maintain that somewhere in the group and solo back catalogue there is song to meet everyone's taste, no matter how old they are or what genre they listen to normally.
It's just making sure they are exposed to the right track.
Don't forget there are a lot of contemporary groups have got a kind of secondhand Beatle's influence as they sight the likes of Stone Roses, Oasis, Ramones etc who were all influenced by the Beatles.

Short answer to topic question would be "YES", at least in my experience.
Here's an anecdote that actually has happened to me more than once. I have a White Album tie that I like to wear when I have to wear a suit (which is most days, unfortunately). So, I'll be in line at a Subway sandwich shop, say, and the kid making the sandwich will invariably say something like "Los Beatles! Very cool!" (I work in Southern California, btw).
This has happened way more than once, and they are almost always young adults (I'd say 17 to 25 year old range), of all ethnicities/backgrounds etc. Still surprises me, come to think. You wouldn't figure some of these kids even listen to rock n roll at all, much less the Boys From Liverpool.
Admittedly, it's anecdotal evidence but seems to be consistent. I still have that tie, too!

I've been noticing that kind of thing more and more. There are a few exceptions, but whenever its come up with the kids in my orchestra (who are pretty much between the ages of 12 and 18) have had positive things to say. Then again, I always wonder if that's skewed because I'm not exactly in with what I suppose would be "cool" kids (not really, in my humble opinion). But most everyone I have any urge to socialize with has said they like them. I have yet to find anyone quite as into them is me, but I'm not surprised by that given my tendency to get stuck on one thing and absorb everything about it like a sponge.
