Sorry I`m late. I have a few questions . That Chap Beatles Best said that Beatlemania started in 1960 ? It did`nt did it . 1963 me thinks 2. George Martin a man who knows his bacon got a session drummer to replace Pete ,, Not Ringo ? 3. Massive band in 2 cities ? A red light street and a Damp cellar ? massive . 4. Beatles at their best ? with Pete . Not 1966/ 70 .? It`s late and I have just spent ages reading the posts so . Sorry if I have some facts wrong , And as for 50 odd years ago ! You've got the facts spot on Mr Kite but Beatlesattheirbest doesnt want to face up to them.

Thanx for the drum scene facts in Liverpool in the early '60's mrmustard. Very interesting. Wish we all could go back there, if just for one day, lol

I wish we could too!
Imagine if your wish was granted though. If you could go back for one night in the Cavern and watch three bands, who would they be?

I haven't been active here much folks. Sorry about that. I tell you something, the human being known as Shaun Phillips, if he attends Beatle week and is as horrid to an audience as he was to others on this forum, well he won't be asked back. Billy J Kramer spoke at Beatle Week two or three years ago and he was very rude to a lady member of the audience I'm led to believe. Also, Mr Kramer's wife had a right go at my mate little Stephen who had wanted to record one of his performances on video. Billy the H had allowed Stephen permission to do so by the way. Well Mrs Billy K went stark staring bonkers, demanding video tape be handed over. I'm happy to report that she didn't get what she wanted. I think she was afraid of the footage being put on you tube, because then the world would have seen just how terrible his performance was. As a result, it was decided not to invite Billy J back ever again. He annoyed the wrong people. Shaun Phillips will present a masquerade to the public, but if he's rude, he'll be found out and sent packing, as a proper charlatan ought to be Hope all's good with all here. Michael Really looking forward to having this discussion in Liverpool this year! I heard Shaun Phillips is a guest speaker on convention day!

I wish we could too! Imagine if your wish was granted though. If you could go back for one night in the Cavern and watch three bands, who would they be? There was a movie that came out in the early 70's titled "That'll Be the Day' with Ringo, Keith Moon, Billy Fury and David Essex. It was a fictional movie about those early days in England. The one part that I really liked in the movie was the band that was playing with Billy Fury doing vocals and they were doing the Shadow walk. Boy did that bring back memories. Back to your question, of course No. 1 would be an afternoon performace of The Beatles at the Cavern. Just to see them jagging around on stage would be just so fantastic! And to think you could just walk right up to them and talk to Lennon gives me goosebumps. No. 2 would be to see the early Pink Floyd with Syd there. Of course Dave wouldn't be there yet, but I'd still like to see that. And the early Who bashing the hell out of their shit on The Cavern stage. ha-ha

Rocky, I was talking about bands that regularly played there like The Beatles. Saying that, The Who did play at The Cavern once.

I thought everybody played the Cavern. lol Well nix Pink and add Rory Storm. I don't think the Shadows were allowed in Liverpool. lol I would have liked to have seen the orignal Quarrymen play there too. Just for the historical part of it. If I had to pick just one nite to be there it would have been Aug.3, 1963, the last time the Beatles appeared there so I could say "Yeah I was there Ma."

It was a purely instrumental gig on a tour they did without Cliff. Jet Harris (who liked a drink) fell flat on his face during the gig because he was that drunk.

For all those people who wish to base a theory on a one-off quote from John Lennon, make a film or think Ringo was just lucky to be in The Beatles etc etc, should take note of another quote from John Lennon that I have just read in the Tribute For John 1990 concert programme. I can't remember from what interview it originally came from but it goes...
'Ringo was a star in his own right in Liverpool even before we met him...Ringo's talent would have come along one way or another....Ringo is a damn good drummer.'
Funny that quote isn't in The Beatles At Their Best film!

I always found Pete, Roag and the gang to be nice people, and I dont have any issue with them now making a fair and honest living out of their connections, Pete deserves at least that, but for me the argument was solved when I realised that Pete is a quiet man, reserved and shy but most of all that he needs an additional drummer in his band for the rythm to be even noticed, that sealed it for me. He wasn't good enough for The Beatles, however nice he is, (and he is) and nothing that any 3rd party ever comes up with can change that argument.
