I don't like death metal although the artistic ambition with Opeth is much higher than, say, Cannibal Corpse. However I have
Blackwater Park Damnation Heritage.

It's all semantics, but I always considered pre-prog Opeth "doom metal" along the same lines as My Dying Bride, Cathedral, November's Doom, Candlemass, etc. What I consider death metal has the common threads of shock value album cover art and disgusting lyrics/band names. The overall gross out factor of bands like Cannibal Corpse, Autopsy, Mortician, etc always turned me off to death metal. It just always seemed like comic book gore...extreme to the point of silliness and musically not terribly interesting...though I admit I love early Sepultura so go figure

I don't like the cookie monster vocals of death metal or early Opeth but funny enough I do like badly produced black metal with it's raspy voices, too much reverb, gutless bass, Corpse paint.
I did an instrumental peice with my own attempt at bad black metal. I'll post it sometime.

Interesting choice for Prog there ac30 I think the Groundhogs evolved from what you would call a blues band into a progressive blues band, but as we don't have a prog blues thread I thought I would put it in here. Perhaps threads for prog blues and prog folk might be in order.

That`s the beauty of Prog , it`s so hard to narrow it down I`ve been a long time fan of The Groundhogs ,seen them twice , first time was around 1980 ish in Oldham of all places I`m sure Art saw them in the 60` ( over to you Art ) I think we do need a Blues thread on here as , guess what ! I love the Blues

Lucky Man was the 1st time I ever heard a synthesizer, Brain Salad Surgery was the 1st prog album I ever bought & I was lucky enough to see ELP on the Works tour in Oakland '77 (pic below)...now Keith & Greg are both gone. A sad day for music

No more PROG. Damm. But here they were so expensive! Mrs. A. Would always check who was on the cover and if I wasn't there to restrain her she would have bought them all for me.

I bought the last one as it so happened to have Steve Hillage in it . I just wished I bought more than I did . Here is the son of Gabriel (God Like ) talkin to the Mag (?!)
