Oooh, good stuff - very R'n'B, like early Kinks! The singer looks a little awkward up there on stage though!

LOL! They could have at least given him a mic to hold! Well, Stevie Wright needed both hands free so he could do his stage routine, a bit like Mick Jagger. But he could've at least had an unheld mic, like he had on the "Friday On My Mind" clip.

Exactly! Took me a while to spot the drummer in that clip too!! But, as I said, it's a very fine slice of Sixties R'n'B!

The Who by miles and miles and miles and miles and miles. Then probably Cream. The Beatles in first place obviously.

The Who are currently in 2nd place, but this poll is for British Sixties bands and some would argue that The Who's best work was in the Seventies!

I agree with you but they still did great work in the Sixties; Tommy and some great singles - The Seeker, I Can't Explain, Pictures of Lily, Pinball Wizard, I Can See For Miles etc.....
By the way, is the Dave Clark Five in the poll for a laugh or what!

The Who and The Kinks had an early close connection. The Who's first hit "I Can't Explain" was said to be influenced by the early Kinks, whom Pete Townsend referred to as quintessentially English, along with his high regard of Ray Davies as a modern-day poet. Both bands also shared American producer Shel Talmy in the 60's. Plus, they were pioneers of UK rock.
And look at the array of talent that came out. "I Can't Explain", "My Generation", "Substitute", "Happy Jack", "I Can See For Miles", and "Tommy", along with "You Really Got Me", "All Day And All Of The Night", "Tired Of Waiting For You", "Sunny Afternoon", and "Waterloo Sunset". I found it hard to split them, but one thing I am sure of, I never get tired of listening to the music of either band.

I'm changing my answer to The Pretty Things. I'm addicted now. Almost like a sickness. I was asking Paul over at the other forum about 'SF Sorrow' and he said he liked it better than Pepper. I couldnt believe that so I picked it up and it pretty much slapped me right in the mouth. My favorite album of all time. I've since picked up 'Get The Picture', 'Parachute', 'Emotions', 'Freeway Madness', 'Cross Talk' and 'Silk Torpedo'. The rest are on their way. This band practically reinvented themselves every album. I love em.

Let me know what type you'd like to hear too. They started with the early 60's rock, then Psych, then 70's straight rock, then 80's actually with 'Cross Talk'. Maybe we'll post a small progression.

Funny that The Pretty Things were quite popular over here in Holland. It is documented that the band had a big influence and impact on the Dutch popscene of the sixties and early seventies. They played the Blokker festival here in 1965 (The Beatles were there in 1964) and that made a big impression. In the UK they were just another band I guess.
