It's about time we had another I think!
Here goes!
The original version, but more than likely, unfamiliar version of Do Wah Diddy by The Exciters, recorded in 1963. The Exciters were probably better know for their hit "Tell Him", which was written by Bert Berns (who was discussed in a previous thread).
This is a great version with all the classic girl-group hallmarks - once you hear this version, you may not want to listen to the Manfred Man version again! It almost makes you want to skip along the street... almost!

This is the very well-known version by Manfred Mann, released in 1964. [music]http://www.the-end-uk.com/music/dwdmanfredmann.mp3[/music]

I'm glad this topic is still alive. I really like the Exciter's original version of Do Wah Diddy but I have heard the Manfred Mann version so many times I don't think it will displace the original in my mind.

Hi everyone! I deeply apologize for making an error, I chose three artists from America rather than compare the American and British versions. Lets try this again, here's an American and British version from the mid 1960's, they are a follows:

I get the feeling that I am going to be starting up a BEACH BOYS thread, THE BEACH BOYS and I do have a little history together. Take care.
