A giant of a hit in America in 1964 by the Righteous Bros. Was done by Cilla Black in 1965 and reached #2 in England.
Bobby Hatfield (1940-2003) Bill Medley (1940-)
And another remake done by Long John Baldry, 15 years later, in 1979, was also a huge hit.
John Baldry (1941-2005) Ht- 6'7" Kathi McDonald (1948-2012)

Pothos, those are two of my favourite numbers. One of the first albums I owned was a Dusty collection which included "Goinn' Back" as well as a great version of the Jaques Brel song
The Byrds still some great versions, including the above "Going Back" as well as "The Bells of Rymney"
Here's Carol King's own version
Rocky, I remember the duel between the Righteous Brothers and Cilla's version. Phil Spector flew the bros over to England, to appear on TV [which I remember watching]. They beat Cilla, and, rightfully, got to number one in the UK charts.

Another terrific Lieber/Stoller number by the Coasters,
This was on the setlists of numerous Merseybeat groups, such as Kingsize Taylor and the Dominoes. Picked up in Hamburg by The Rattles...

Is that a Goldtop Les Paul with P-90 pickups that the Coasters' guitarist is holding?
Ok, gearheadedness over. Back to your thread.

Surely the most radical reworking ever.

From 1962...
covered brilliantly in 1964...
later covered by The Merseybeats in 1979, just before they were arrested by the fashion police!

Arthur Alexander cut this in 1961. Both sides were great...
The Beatles loved these numbers, and both were immediately included in their Cavern setlist.
UK Covers include
