Interesting piece. My era was the 1980's and Liverpool had their second wave thanks to Rics with acts like OMD, Big in Japan that splintered in to Wah, Echo and the Bunnymen and Lightening Seads. Other bands such as China Crisis, Dead or Alive and The Teardrop Explodes. They played at Erics which opened across the road from The Cavern, but had a totally experience to a few pivatal things. John Peal and other national DJ played their music. The music mags were national icons and reported on all areas of the country not just London. Acts wrote there own material as standard and thank to Punk indie labels, shops and distabutuion networks could get records to kids without major lable support. This second wave pushed Liverpool back in the limelight. In fact it was only the late 1980's when regional music scenes stood up to London such as Tony Wilson pushing the Manchester scene that went global. Also a lot more of the stars i grew up with still live close to the areas they came from. Unfortunately our indistry is again London centric dominated by a few corporate lables andf reality figures and a weak music press.
Liverpool in the 1960's needed at least 10 more Epsteins and a more hands on approach in the region. Labels national attention for other acts that were not in the charts more confidence in songwriting. I will always beleive that Liverpool music came from the ground up kids doing it for themselves but wiped out because the big boys just wanted the few and left the rest to wither. It took a decade to recover. Sadly nothing has changed and the UK music scene is in a mess because of these factors.

That re-union was held at the Top Rank Suite, and I was there, working, that night.

Did not know that Brew.
i think the death of John Peal was a massive blow to the uk scene. He gave unsigned acts a voice. You sent his a cassette and if he liked it you got a session. For decades he spotted raw talent. Led Zep, Bowie (long before he started having chrt hits) T.Rex and many more found support through John. Although we have loads of D'J's doing this role no one seemes to either have that golden ear or the respect to have the ability to show raw talent. UK tv to a major extent has abandoned music. Cowell has not helped with this (Can you imagine him likeing Bowie Dylan Bush et al) but as a teen we had Top of the Pops, Whistle Test. The Tube, Razamataz and The Chart Show. No Jools Holland shoulders a great burden but is only on air what 12 weeks a year. The other were 52 weeks a year in primetime.
I read 5 music mags. Bands even popped up on Nationwide, Wogan, Val Donaghan, and Blue Peter.
Music does not seem front and centre of our culture anymore and Covid has battered the live scene. Notice that at Glasto tow out the three headline acts were US.
Oh well things will change. All we need is a band to ignite the world. Like perhaps The Beatles.

I knew that was an older video cause most of the people are gone now. The bouncer at the end says it all though when he says he got nothing out of it (money & fame) but he has the memories.... and sometimes that's more important! How I wish I was there!! No amount of money will ever give you that chance again!

Cheers !
I thought it was really sad to see The Cavern in such a state . Many that could be the last time it was filmed before it was filed in .
