Watched the documentary tonight on the life of Joe Orton the playwright and they show a acted representation of the script written by Orton for The Beatles. It looks very much in his famous avant guard edgy style that had made him a star with Paul and John playing dodgy nare do well's. Does anyone know more about this movie project that never was.

The Times flagged this up as a great documentary so may watch it at work on the iplayer. I was unable to watch this on Saturday night as i was watching "game of the day " on Sky Sports where my Man United were playing "champagne football against the giants Brighton ha ha . just finished watching this, (ah the joys of being able to watch these things at work.) excellent documentary of a fascinating writer. Not sure if there was any chance of him actually getting the ok to make a film with the Beatles. Even today these plays are quite shocking, goodness knows how many people would be offended back then , it may have been the Swinging Sixties for some but i think the vast majority would have had nothing to do with the Swinging Sixties. As was pointed out in the documentary , people still stood to attention for the National Anthem at the end of a film in cinemas back then.
