Just been reading on another forum about how they seem to think the SQ is poor on the new mix backed up by the host. Every single review I have read has been glowing from experts who know their stuff. Why so much hatred for this mix I have no clue?

Does no one have an opinion on the SQ?

I only got the standard disc which seemed ok. I think a more knowledgeable poster would have more to say regarding the mix.

Thanks for the reply, at least that is a start. Has anyone else got any opinion on what is a very important release?? I'm afraid i tend to find no difference on sound quality to any of the multitude of Beatles records that have been remastered, at the last count i have 8 copies of Sgt Pepper . I think you need to have some fancy expensive hi-fi system to pick up differences. So maybe id if someone on here has such a system they could give a better response than a techo-phobe like me.

It begs the question, WHY? Are you a completist, a collector or just a compulsive person when it comes to Beatles output? I mean, if you can't hear any difference whatsoever in the sound quality of your various copies of Sgt. Pepper, why have 8 copies? I'm baffled!

Because every so often they find new ways to fork out money for records you already have. I had pepper on cassette and cd , then they remastered the cds then last year i realised i didn't have it on vinyl , what a great thing the vinyl package is , then of course i bought the super deluxe box set so i'd get the different mixes and the beautiful book that came with it along with the Making of documentary that had not been officially released.. Let's be honest i bet you have more than one copy of your favourite album. I think we were all suckers falling for the replacing our vinyl with CDs came out. Some poor souls sold or gave away their vinyl when of all the ways to buy music nothing beats Vinyl with ideally a gate fold sleeve, it's a work of art.

Had this release on Vinyl and CD for some time now and have to say it is superb. The new stereo mix is just sublime with every sound and instrument being able to be heard in a way that I am sure was the original intention of George Martin and the team at the time, but due to the then limitations of the recording tech was out of reach. The outtakes are a thing of beauty that leaves you breathless. This release is perfect and stands alongside the original Mono release and takes its place in musical history. Well done Giles Martin and the team @ Abbey Road, you nailed it.

I wish I could answer your question more fully but am not a great one for understanding mixes. Like I said I have 2 cd versions bought fairly recently and they both sound fine to my tin ear. It is quiet at times but then something kicks in and the forum gets chatty again.
