As you would expect, Liverpool is celebrating this great event with all kinds of things going on. However, from 25th May - 16th June, there some 'cultural events' that some of you may be interested in. Check it out HERE. There is even an event about Mr Kite, one of our very own residents of this Forum! Check it out HERE. If you go, enjoy the show.

Also got the Music Exhibition on the to do list i really wish i could go to these events in Liverpool but i'm as poor as a church mouse. There are 3 Pepper Anniversary shows in London , one at The Leicester Square Theatre with an act i'd not heard of, The Upbeat Beatles on Sunday 4rth June, Then an American act called Rain take over The London Palladium 3rd October but i'm sure the best one which is already sold out on 1st June at the Royal Albert Hall is with my favourite Beatles tribute act, The Bootleg Beatles.

I know there's a lot of 'activity' all over the world regarding Sgt Pepper's 50th anniversary. All the tribute bands you mention are very good indeed and I would agree with you that The Bootleg Beatles are perhaps the ultimate Beatles tribute band. I've seen them many times. Actually, Rain are as near as you can get to reproducing the original sound. They've been going for many years now and if you can see beyond the obvious wigs etc., they're really authentic. Here's a video.

very good promo, the chap doing Macca was very impressive. They did this show on Broadway a few years ago. However i'd like to know if they convincingly interact with the audience , this was the thing that for me separates The Bootlegs was their convincing accents and interaction with the crowd. When i saw them at The Royal Albert Hall a few years ago , Neil Innes was in the audience and they had some banter dismissing his Rutles.

Spencer Leigh devoted his show to the Sergeant Pepper album tracks covered by other artists. Listen hereI heard the show last night. I thought it was excellent. Lots of live performances too. My only disappointment was not hearing the full version of Within You Without You by the Tedeschi Trucks band. He cut it short! I will have to find the full version somewhere.

I've just listened to the whole show, probably my favourite version was the last one with Jose Feliciano and A day in the life. I liked how he hose a few versions we hadn't heard before, though i'd have preferred Elton version of Lucy in the sky to the rather tame Christians version. Billy Connolly's version of Kite annoyed me, i'd have preferred another psychedelic attempt, pity Syd Barrett is no longer with us.

I had forgotten about The Christians version of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. I hadn't heard it before but it was pretty poor. I would have preferred William Shatners version!

Overall, I thought the covers did an excellent job with complex material. I was especially impressed with Tedeschi Trucks, Of course Joe Cocker was superb. His version of "Help from my friends" is classic. Here's a more recent live performance, which still has power... Agreed that the Billy Connolley track was pretty dire. However, in my opinion the worst "cover" of Pepper is.....
