What a stupid idea to scale back BeatleWeek, when Liverpool is becoming more and more a tourist destination.

Like everything else brew they try to destroy it! Like we've showed in other threads most of the Beatle places are gone. Then they see the stupidity of their ways and try to bring false places back and make money on them. Put up statues and historic markers after you have to twist their arms to get them. If it wasn't for a few intelligent people Liverpool would probably be one giant parking lot.

Happening as we speak Music tourism conference in Liverpool
It is estimated that Beatles related tourism bring an annual 82 million to Liverpool. So they want to reduce Beatle Week. Crazy.

Surely Liverpool City Council aren't as naive now as they once where to let this happen! Jesus! Who am I kidding!!

I think CCT are struggling to find the 'big names' to put on at the convention on Sunday, and at the 'legends' gigs at The Cavern on the last day of the festival. ALl of the people who were around in the 60s and worked with the lads are knocking on, and how many have passed away in the last couple of years? Also, I think the numbers of attendees buying packages appears to be dropping year on year, which may have something to do with it.
I hope whatever happens next year (and in the following years) manages to keep up the good work that's been done over the years, we should be going all out to celebrate the music of Liverpool, and IBW does that in a great way.

So then, did anyone from this forum actually go to this year's Beatleweek? I haven't read any reports or reviews. If you were there, is there any chance of a brief resume of what it was like? And what about next year's Beatleweek? Was there any mention anywhere about what's happening? Thanks.

Sadly , only I have so far did a wee bit at the bottom of this Link beatleforum.proboards.com/thread/8927/beatle-week-forum-meet-2017It was really tough to say if it was less popular than the last few years as around the " Beatle " sights it always busy 12 Months to the year Liverpool is a very busy City anytime at the weekends as long as I`ve been going The glory days of the Beatle Weekend have gone I guess as back in the day they use to shut the City on a Sunday Is it on next Year ? Who knows But I`m sure that with or without it Liverpool will always attract people form all over the world for eternity

The problem about getting named guest was caused by the conventions and Cavern club. It was these who ignored many of the MerseyBeat stars for years and now moan that none will play or meet the public. There are plenty of these guys around and many are still playing, and playing well. They are never going to turn up for something that has ignored them for the past 30 years or so, and to be honest, why should they.
Beatleweek will still go ahead with it scaled down. there will be more events out of town going on and that is a good thing.
