More sad news. It appears Sam Leach has passed away. I've read a couple of reports from reliable sources on this. I believe he had been very poorly. RIP Sam.

Interesting interview. Can I aske what is the correct way to pronounce Epstein.
Sam stresses the ee sound in the name but I always thought it was the I sounds in his surname that was stressed.
So is it steen or stine.

The usual way is Steen. But Brian wanted to be called Stine.

My recollection of meeting Sam was in 2011 when I took my daughter Kate (then 18 years old) to the annual Mathew Street Festival, as it was called then. The usual place to meet up on the Saturday was 'The Grapes' on Mathew Street so, having met a few of the Forum members, including Mr Kite, Mr Mustard and The End in the pub (they may remember this), in walks Sam Leach and sat in the corner. Intrigued, my daughter went over to talk with him and he had all the time in the world for her, signing and selling her his book 'The Rocking City'. He told my daughter about the time he first met The Beatles in Hamburg in 1961 and gave them a 12 gig booking at his Cassanova club. And he went on to tell her about their eventual rise to fame. Of course he related this story to many visitors to Liverpool, usually in 'The Grapes' where he spent many an afternoon. What a lovely man he was. We have lost an integral part of The Beatles history. RIP Sam .
This is a photograph of Kate and Sam.

Then I hope whatever they were sitting on has been destroyed. btw I also noticed John was the only one that wasn't celebrating whatever it was. His beer is still uncorked on the floor.

I think that photo was at the infamous Aldershot gig. Not much to celebrate

It's Dick Matthews, who took many photos of the Beatles. Tommy Mac, who worked at the Cavern introduced him to me years later, when he was in the home security business.

You are quite right Brew. Now I have looked at a photo of Ken to remind myself, he looks absolutely nothing like the man in the photo!
