Hi Brian - I was wondering if you knew anything about any transition from the 'rattly cheap sounding' guitar amps they were using in June 62 to top gear Abbey Road amps.
For example - were ANY of the Beatles hits recorded with their original road amps? I know that guitarists are particular about their "sound" nowadays, and it would probably be disconcerting to make them change on the spot for an important engagement.
And if the first few songs were recorded with their original road amps, do you know when they transitioned to more upper crust amps?
Thanks Brian (or anyone else who may know)!

Hmmmm yes, sorta. I do know a lot about it.
It's in our book, the discussion of Paul's "coffin" bass amp - the ONLY one ever changed to "an Abbey Road" amp, but it's not so likely their amps were really SO bad.
In all the years to come for them, many of their recordings used a mixture of older live gear and new amps. You see the covers and tags from airline baggage on them in the studio sometimes (no flight cases then!).
Nowadays guitarists are particular about their sound. Back then, not so much. And they WANTED new sounds (not old sounds) on their records, so "newer was better" for their minds.
