Well Beatle people, this year's Beatle Week is almost upon us - only 7 weeks to go now!
So, who's going then? And if so, when will you be arriving in Liverpool and for how long will you be staying? Are you booked up with a package via Cavern City Tours and do you have tickets for any of the main events? It will be great to meet up with Forum members again - and even non Forum members too!
For the benefit of 'first timers' or anyone for that matter, we have a Forum meet up during the Beatle weekend and all are welcome. Last year, we met up in the pub inside the Adelphi Hotel on the Sunday and it was great to see so many people there. So, unless anyone has any objections, I propose that this years meet up will be on Sunday, 30th August at 12 noon in the Adelphi Hotel pub. Please bear in mind that, as it will be Convention Day, there will be an entrance fee (unless you're on a package with Cavern City Tours) which will give you access to all day live music in all of the rooms plus the Beatles memorabilia and record stalls. You will also be able to have access to the main room and listen to guests speaking about The Beatles etc.
Can you let me know if that's OK?
Really looking forward to seeing you all.

Hey Eggman! Yes, I'll be there! I only live up the road!
I'm not convinced the forum meet up works at the Adelphi on convention Sunday. There's too much going on that people want to go and see round the hotel. It's also quite late in the week to meet up with newbies who may have been there three days already and don't know anyone.
Happy to discuss the pros and cons further.

I'm going to try to make this meet. I agree that the Adelphi/Sunday may not be ideal Cheers,

Happy to discuss the pros and cons further. I agree entirely with what you say Mr M. I had the same reservations last year before it was decided to meet up in The Adelphi on the Sunday but I was shot down in flames because The Grapes (our traditional meeting place) apparently was too small to get our ever increasing members into that corner of the pub. I didn't feel comfortable at all in The Adelphi, especially when I had to pay £10 to get into The Convention!! I didn't stay very long either as there were other bands I wanted to see elsewhere! Don't get me wrong, it wasn't the money but I thought that the arrangement at The Adelphi wasn't conducive to the 'comfy' atmosphere of The Grapes. People seemed to be sitting all over the place. Anyway, rant over. I just thought that I would throw something up on the Forum here as time is of the essence with people making arrangements for their trips to Liverpool as we speak. Maybe I was a bit presumptuous to suggest the same place as last year
So, good Beatle people, ignore my post about the Forum meet up at The Adelphi and, as you quite rightly say Mr M, I'm more than happy to discuss pros and cons of a suitable venue for this year's Forum meet up. For what it's worth, I think the meet up day should be the Saturday 29th August and the time of 12 noon onwards seems just about right. I prefer The Grapes (it's a better pint in there too!) to The Adelphi. However, I'm willing to listen to other people's views and I'm also open to meeting in an alternative venue other than The Adelphi or The Grapes.
Maybe other people can now suggest ideas and, if necessary, we could have the traditional 'vote'. So let's hear what other people think. Even Al can have his say too! Mind you, he's been conspicuous by his absence of late.
Thanks folks.

Even Al can have his say too! Mind you, he's been conspicuous by his absence of late. Sorry, I've been on me 'ollidees!! Yeah, I wasn’t “sold” on the ambience of the Aldelphi venue last year either – then again I’d only had 3 hours sleep! Unfortunately the change in venue was rather forced on us as the Alma de Cuba gig (usually one of the best during Beatle Week) was on the Saturday instead of the Friday, which sort of screwed the days up. It did mean we had two Beatle Forum meet ups during Beatle Week last year though! :-D However, the Alma de Cuba gig is again on the Saturday this year with the theme being Paul McCartney and Wings this time. To be honest, as much as I love this venue, it really wouldn't bother me too much to miss this gig as, personally speaking, I don't think it's a particularly great theme - to my mind it should be Beatles not Wings, that's just my 10 cents! That said, I wonder if The Grapes would allow us to cordon off a corner of the pub for just a couple of hours on the Saturday from 12:00 midday – I’d be more than happy to pay – perhaps they could even lay on some sarnies for us! Of course that would mean we'd miss out on that Wings Over Alma de Cuba gig. What do you guys reckon on that plan though? AL

Yes, it's a right pain that Alma De Cuba has been moved to the Saturday now. Convention day on the Sunday is £17.50 to get in this year. So holding it there is a lot to ask people to pay if they don't want to spend the full day there or are not part of a package.
We should try meeting up as soon as possible with people new to the forum. The Friday would be ideal but that is dependant on who arrives on a Friday. This year there is also Beatles At The Bombed Out Church on Friday afternoon which might be interesting.
Alma De Cuba is such a pleasant departure from Mathew Street/Adelphi though, although I do like the idea of sarnies and pork pies in The Grapes!!.......doubt they will go for that.
It's a tough one. It needs to go to a poll in order to understand who could potentially be turning up to the meet up outside of the usual crowd for starters. Then decide what day suits most people. Then the venue.
Beatleweek used to be so simple!!!

Beatleweek used to be so simple!!! Who mentioned pork pies? ?? LOL! It would be great to have the meet-up sooner but some members (John!!) usually don’t arrive until Saturday morning – in addition, the “Gold” package runs from the Friday, so unless we made it an evening meet-up, most people wouldn’t be around for midday... even with the promise of pork pies! Of course we could always try enticing members to join us earlier and still have the official pork pie meat-up on the Saturday! What do you guys reckon on the Saturday meet-up idea though? Would mean we miss Alma de Cuba Anyone fancy popping into the Grapes to see if they’d mind roping off a section for us for just a couple of hours – it’s not that busy at that time of day, I really don’t mind paying plus I’d be booking food! AL

Hey all ! Free Pork pies ! Right . I wont go on and on about how I can`t afford to stay over etc etc . I can really only do one day I`m with most people on the last years meet that it did`nt have that "ambiance" as the usual meets in The Grapes. strange that . I guess the word Traditional has a meaning when it comes to meetings ? So I guess the Sat 12 o clock just has that great Forum meet feeling I really want to go Sunday , so I can meet Bob Gruin ! This man has my photo`s! I will try to figure out to do both I will ponder . But what ever the outcome I am looking forward to meeting everyone yet again , as I always say it`s the best bit of a great Beatle weekend . Sorry Al I canna do Fridays
