Hey CDRguy. Welcome to the forum!
There's books and books written on this. Basically they just grew up and became tired of each other. There just wasn't enough room for three songwriters in the band. They where all pulling in different directions by the end. It was inevitable. It wasn't Yoko. That's a cop out of an excuse. This is the short answer anyway!

Hello CDRGuy . A warm Welcome to the Forum . What a question ! First of all . Are you a Beatle newbie ? If you are you should invest in a Good Beatle book(s) And when you`ve read them you more than likely have you own opinion . As no doubt many on here will have their own opinions . But I will give you my thoughts . ( As short as possible ) Was it Yoko ? Well ... It of course had some bearing on the matter . But I think the cracks started to appear once the touring had stopped , long before Yoko turned up . Also the death of Brian Epstein was another factor . You`ve got to remember that The Beatles were living every day in each others company for 10 years and even longer for John , Paul and George . I think that they had done everything and more in those years and where else could they go ? Take the Rolling Stones for example . They got stuck in a rut from 1970 onwards and for me never did anything that was half as good as The Beatles did in those short years and I`m a Stones fan ! I think the split came just at the right time and made The Beatles going out in a blaze of glory with Abbey Rd. Could they have bettered themselves in the 70`s ? I think not . As for their Wife`s breaking The Beatles up ? I think not .

There is a recent thread with video from what became Let it Be, but was Get Back. One of the posters pointed out that the Beatles had released the White Album in November and here they are in January recording again. I have never seen this written anywhere, but I think pressure from the corporate bigwigs at EMI to release product was a contributing factor.

One of the posters pointed out that the Beatles had released the White Album in November and here they are in January recording again. I have never seen this written anywhere, but I think pressure from the corporate bigwigs at EMI to release product was a contributing factor. Actually the 'corporate bigwigs' gave them free reign. They didn't want to kill the golden goose. It was probably Paul more than Yoko that killed the Beatles. He's the one that came up with the MM Tour project, which wasn't that well received, and then wanted them to do the live (Get Back- to the studio) project. He thought he was doing the group a big favor, but in reality it was just the opposite. Plus you add George's wanting more time to record his songs when they would rush through them, and Ringo not really caring anymore and getting bored with the whole recording thing as he wanted to do his movie projects more. With John blaming them all for snubbing his precious little Yoko. Finally you have the straw that broke the camels (Beatles) back, who was going to be our new manager? Mix that all together lads and you have a classic break-up scenario.
