So I'd like your advice on the best way to go about cleaning stains, specifically ink stains, off of a vinyl record cover. I recently bought a copy of 'The Beatles greatest' (German Odeon LP) off of Ebay for next to no money but rather than get a bargain I got somebody's homework written on the back cover. I've looked online for solutions but the majority say to leave it alone which I would if it was just a bit of a squiggle. Any ideas?

Weeellllll,,,,,,,,, here's a link for LP cover lovers. lpcoverlover.com/restoration-tips/Only thing is that ink of any sort on a non laminated paper sleeve is stained right into the pulp fibres and is pretty much un-removable. Even the laminated White Album sleeve I have was very difficult to clear up. I STILL know that it belonged to Dennis Smith! 3 Months later I bought Sgt Pepper's and discovered that IT belonged to Dennis Smith TOO!

I bet when Dennis Smith was a boy he wouldn't let any of the other kids play with his toys...

So I had a stab at cleaning the ink off of the back of the record cover that I purchased from Ebay. It pisses me off when people indiscriminately scribble on a record cover, yes I can understand somebody writing their name on it but that's as far as it should go, obviously 'M Fenton' was clean out of paper that day. Anyway.....I used 'Nivea Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes' on the laminated cover and luckily enough it seems to have done the trick.

Looks good. I wonder if M fenton checked or x-ed the songs to indicate they were good or bad or which ones he'll listen to again or 'yup, I've listened to that one, only 6 more to go to check them all off',,,,

I've been pretty lucky with Ebay, but there is something to be said about seeing it in your own hands before purchasing!

Yeah you can't beat seeing the item for real before you decide to buy or not, in that respect Ebay is somewhat of a lottery. I wouldn't mind but the guy I bought the album off didn't disclose in the Ebay description that there were crosses, ticks, a mathmatical sum, a name and the word 'Work' scribbled on the back in ink, it must have slipped his mind. Still it wasn't as bad as Desh's album cover....wow!!! I didn't dream that did I? Where's it gone?
