Did anybody watch the first part of the Cilla Black drama ('Cilla') on ITV? The Beatles featured heavily in it, what did you think if you did see it?

I saw it. Sheridan Smith did a great job as Cilla I think and is rightly getting a lot of plaudits for her performance. I wasn't so convinced by the actors who played The Beatles though. Agreed Desh, I thought Sheridan Smith was great but I was put off by the Beatles, especially the John Lennon who sounded as though he'd never been to Liverpool in his life. If these casting agencies for Beatle drama's don't book their ideas up they're going to have young people thinking the Beatles were from Swansea....la!

Out of all the performances from actors playing the Beatles who do you think were the best. To be honest, I wasn't really interested too much about the portrayal of The Beatles. The programme is primarily about Cilla Black and I thought the actors who played the four Beatles were nondescript. But if I had to stick my neck out, I would say the guy who plays Ringo is more 'authentic' if you like.

Yeah I'd have to agree and go with Ringo, and I think the fact the "Beatles" are nondescript in the show helps the viewer not to lose focus of the main character Cilla. The same tactics were employed in the movie "Nowhere Boy" where Aaron Johnson's loud muscly Lennon contrasts heavily against the diminutive almost meek like figure of Paul McCartney.

I've just watched the second episode. Overall, I enjoyed it. I'm not really a Cilla fan, so the core story wasn't too interesting, but the scenes in the Cavern and Iron Door were, again, well done. Strangely, the bass player with Kingsize Taylor was the spitting image of a young Jonny Gus.....who was also portayed with the Big Three. Good to see the Adelphi used to replicate a London hotel. Again, Sheridan Smith was impressive singing, including a belting version of "Some Other Guy[girl]" The actor playing George Martin was spot-on too.

I missed it tonight but will watch it on catch up tomorrow. There's quite a heated discussion on facebook at the moment regarding inaccuracies with the Beatles guitars and also Ringo being taller than the other 3, tut tut tut!!!

The timeline is totally off. Also, the producers seemed to have budgeted for one blue Fender bass, used by all the Liverpool groups as well as the George Martin session musos last night.

Has anyone ever seen the tv special on Cilla's career? Especially the part where she's singing 'Step Inside Love' on scaffolding above John & Paul. And at the end of the song she comes down and John whispers a little naughty remark to her. (ha-ha only John.)
starts around the ten minute mark.

In the final episode, it was interesting to see how they used Liverpool buildings to double for New York. Pretty good review of the series by Beatles biographer Phillip Norman here.

Enjoyed it very much . The thing with Bobby seemed to make Cilla as a bit of a Diva . And it seems that Cilla was to part blame for Brian`s death !.

I watched all three episodes over the past two nights. I thought it was really good. It certainly really captured an atmosphere in The Cavern. I thought the guy playing Bobby was a really good actor too. Bobby gave up so much for Cilla. What a bitch telling him he can't have his own recording career and that he's there just to drive her round!
Thought it was quite funny that she was performing in the Adelphi where they have the market stalls on convention day at Beatleweek but it was portraying New York.
