Let It Be DVD Cancelled!
Beatles legends Sir Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr have reportedly blocked the re-release of the notorious Let It Be film.
The documentary, originally intended to show the Fab Four at work in the studio, instead illustrated the extreme tensions between the musicians as the band was on the verge of breaking up.
It famously included scenes of McCartney and George Harrison bickering over the latter's guitar-playing, and footage of an apparently disinterested John Lennon with his wife Yoko Ono.
Although the film was shown in cinemas in the early 1970s, and released on VHS in the 1980s, it has been out of circulation for more than 20 years.
And now the two surviving Beatles have allegedly blocked plans for a DVD release.
A source tells U.K. newspaper the Daily Express, "There has been talk of Let It Be finally being released but now there has been a change of heart.
"The Beatles are still a massive global brand and it's felt it won't be helped if the public sees the darker side of the story. Neither Paul nor Ringo would feel comfortable publicising a film showing The Beatles getting on each other's nerves."

You know, I think I understand the reasoning behind this perfectly from their point of view. I mean, who wants their divorce on youtube?
There are some lovely moments in that film that I remember seeing, and I hope they can somehow be officially released. One is the close up of Paul playing "Let it Be". I'm sure there are others too.
Oh well, I guess we'll just move on!

To be honest, it is already on YouTube and I would say the majority of Beatle fans have it on a booted DVD. Plus everyone knows what happened! But I can see why Paul and Ringo wouldn't want to go doing the publicity rounds for it though.

Its a shame as for me growing up in the 70s when it shown on t.v. i loved it . It didn`t put me off The Beatles , as i aways say any Beatles is better than no Beatles . The last time it was shown on t.v a friend at work videotaped it , i didnt own a video recorder then and he gave it to me and i still have it , since then i have put it on a DVD , so i guess its there loss and my gain Hands up whos never argued with there best friend , Macca and Ringo should not think there saints and realise there after all only human . Macca think of all that money ! I think there is nothing on that film to be ashamed of . Me i think its pure genius .

Personally I find the whole thing really depressing, but it should be released.

I understand why they wouldn't want it released, but we have heard and seen MUCH worse from them over the years. Squabbling in the studio won't come as a shock to many fans. And of course it is only the fans who will buy it.

I have it, but i'd like to have a better quality copy.
I feel it should be released (and it will be one day) as some of the footage is priceless with the kids in the studio and so forth.

There IS outtake footage of them having fun, and it shows them having FUN during the released film too. The one "argument" you see is NOT bad at all. It's very gentlemanly and each guy offering to do what the other wants. The real fights were not recorded on film, although some were caught on audio - but the main ones (I'm told) they crew was asked to leave and did so willingly.
As you can see in Anthology - they have cleaner versions of it, and unreleased footage. Part of what people may not like is the crummy quality of the released film - dark and moody. It's brighter and energetic in the Anth clips we see.

I can't see what all the fuss is behind this non-release. It's not as if it hasn't been seen before, whether it be at the cinemas, TV, or video. And its original release was nearly 40 yrs ago, for crying out loud.

If you watched Anthology at all - the footage looks 100x better than what was ever released, plus they have tons of outtakes.

I'd like to see it released. I've got a boot copy but the quality is good, not great. I do have the promo vids for when "Let It Be...Naked" was released and the quality is fantastic. Plus I'd love to see all that extra unused footage. Releasing an official version would put an end to the bootlegs. And while we're at it, when are the Beatles cartoons coming out?

Was it Paul and Ringo having it blocked, or Paul and Yoko? I saw the movie in 1970 and don't remember Ringo embarrassing himself. I can see Yoko wanting her meddling and Paul's bossiness with George blocked.

I watched the whole thing a couple of weeks ago and didn't think it was even all that bad. Don't really understand why they don't want to show it - in fact most of the tension and arguments were in the anthology anyway! I was expecting to see some much jucier fights!

I saw Let It Be when it first come out in May of 1970 when I was 15, 6 times straight (back to back) in New Orleans. I remember a underground radio station called WJMR played bootleg songs of the album before it all came about. I fell in love with all the jamming etc... I loved seeing my Beatles doing all those things, my favorite Beatle was John and I supported him and Yoko in everything they did. Those Were The Days, man! I loved it all!!!!

And Now, nearly 40 years later, since I have the internet and all I finally got me a DVD of Let It Be. Back in the day Let It be was going to be titled "GET BACK, DON'T LET ME DOWN" I think not releasing Let It Be on DVD officially for whatever reason adds to the mystic of The Fab Beatles. I am still a collector and always will be. I first heard The Beatles in 1963 sing "She Loves You" and that is all it took for me. I was in Jolly Ole England at the time also. (MINDBOGGLING)

Yikes, I watched this movie once and I definitely don't want to see it again. It's painful to watch your favorite band disintegrating before your eyes. I understand why the re-release was canceled.
