Yes, of course that's a Daily Express headline; and here's the whole article: BEATLES BOOTLEGS EVADE APPLE'S EYEFriday May 2,2008 JUST WEEKS after the death of The Beatles’ business manager Neil Aspinall, critics are claiming the band’s company Apple Corps is failing to counter illegal sales of the legendary group’s work. Aspinall, who died from cancer aged 66 last month, was at the helm of the Fab Four’s business empire from 1968 until his retirement last year. Now industry insiders claim Apple has recently failed to stamp out a string of unlicensed products. “Neil Aspinall had a reputation for really keeping his eye on the ball when it came to protecting the band’s interests,” insists an industry source. “But there’s a worry Apple has really taken its eye off the ball of late, as there are a number of essentially bootlegged products using The Beatles’ music and film footage, being bizarrely sold in the shops and on the internet.“One obvious example is their film Let It Be, which has never been released on DVD or video by Apple but is openly for sale on the internet as a pirate copy. The feeling is Apple really needs to get its act together.”Apple declined to comment. www.express.co.uk/features/view/43151/Beatles-bootlegs-evade-Apple-s-eyeThe two paragraphs I've put in bold are a fine example of what cynical types like myself call "piercing insight into the dead obvious."

why hide it? are they waiting to release this footage on new merchandise by adding 'deleted' or 'secret' scenes for every future dvd?ripping more people off ..i.e the new Help. I mean come on Apple, i know i certainly pay alot for my merchandise and some of the time im fine with that..then other times i feel like a mug, when i shouldnt. Sorry for the rant.

Nice post Geoff - love the comments I agree with you Catty - and don't get me started on that "missing scene" on the latest DVD release of Help!.

"Missing scene?" Was it an outtake or something that just vanished from later/foreign prints of the film?

All of the hype surrounding the DVD release of Help! suggested that there was a missing scene included - a scene where Paul attends Sam Ahab's acting school with another young actress (Wendy Richards) with the role of Sam played by Frankie Howerd. - however, although the missing scene is discussed in great detail it was NOT included on the DVD.

Yeah... I vaguely recall hearing something or other about that now that you mention it; but does it still exist?

There have been rumours, but no one I have spoken to has ever seen it.

I strongly suspect it was wiped almost immediately. It was clear during filming that Frankie Howard and The Beatles were not the dream team. Their was indeed little rapport between them. Howard was a perfectionist, and I can't imagine him tolerating these 'amateurs', as he would have seen them.

Cheers for the link Strange how two scenes that featured Paul so prominently were cut from both A Hard Day's Night and Help.

Someone's trying to stir up trouble about the "new" Apple. But if you look at when Neil was still alive, THOUSANDS of bootleg and CDs and DVDs were for sale on ebay, still are. It's easy to stop such sales if you own the copyright. But they didn't.

It's almost impossible to buy a Beatle boot on eBay nowadays though.

Someone's trying to stir up trouble about the "new" Apple. Speaking of Apple 2.0, do we know anything about them yet? Who are they and how are they different from the old lot, if there is a difference? Anyone know?
