Brilliant song. Anyone else think that if the beatles worked properly on this they could have made it a single and possible Number 1 record..??

Easy - when i first heard it on the Anthology 3 i thought why on earth did they give it away.
To say Paul knocked it up in an hour or so before the others came in, just shows it could and should have been a Beatles single

Totally agree - it would have been a huge hit if it were released as a Beatles single. Good to see Paul McCartney has now included this is his current live set - was a VERY pleasant surprise!

It's a good song and would have been a big hit if The Beatles would have released it. I suppose at that time Lennon and Harrison wouldn't have shown much interest as it was another commercial, formulaic song of Paul's that would have been yet another A-side.
No other Beatles played on the demo. Did he actually want it as Beatles single anyway? Did he write it specifically with Badfinger in mind because they were an Apple artist whom they had sat on for a while before actually doing anything for them? Thinking back to Richard Delillo's book 'the longest cocktail party' ( a must read for anyone) I think this was the case.

Well, I don't have The Beatles Anthology (yet) so I hadn't heard of the song before I read this post. I must say Paul's lay down had the makings of a great track. Really him, through and through, building up all the time to a lovely climax. A proper songwriters song. I'm hooked now, it's definitely the song I've listened to most of all this week! I would agree with mrmustard here, The Beatles had a contract to oblige in providing tracks. For sure, this one got away, but remember, some song had to be 'The best one they never recorded!' And I think this was it.
