Really though, is it worth $60,000 just because it was made immediately after the one John Lennon bought? I think not.

Rocky, yeah I actually stumbled across this myself on Ebay. Whilst I have been known to put my hand in my pockets for a lot of Beatles related stuff which includes a pile of genuine Beatles gold records as well as the instruments I have, even I wouldn't pay that much for a guitar even as rare as this one is claimed to be.

I have to agree with you two gentlemen. There are alot of better Beatle related items to have if you are going to spend that kind of money. But it is interesting.

Thanks for sharing that wozza62. Seems there was a 'little' misunderstanding at the end of that thread. They might have to get out the boxing gloves. lol I wanted to ask you what the date of manufacture on your Ric325 V58 was? I just got a bowtie bridge part for it and I was looking to get some Burns knobs, like yours, but they want $80 for them!

I just got a bowtie bridge part for it and I was looking to get some Burns knobs, like yours, but they want $80 for them! My 325C58 was bought new by me in 2001, it was made in June that year. It's the only guitar that I have ever modified and it was my first Beatles related guitar I ever bought. I got a guy in Sydney who is a great luthier (Piers Crocker) to add the bigsby and bow tie bridge, repair the holes from the Kauffman vibrola and set it up properly. Also I got Glen lambert to modify the wiring, the bridge pickup is actually on the centre position in the switch now. I got the bigsby, bowtie and burns knobs from a guy in the US and he lists the knobs still at $79 which is pricey for what they are from here Ric PartsI found that disagreement on the forum a bit of a chuckle as well, but I can tell you this, the new owner is questioning the wrong guy about Ric 325's. Glenn Lambert is 'The Man' when it comes to the 325, he's forgotten more about them than the average Joe like me knows. this is his website. 325 connection

Again thank you for the links my friend. Very interesting website Glenn has. And thank you for your info on your Ric325. I'm going to post a new avatar when I get the knobs for mine.

I also found a (silent) video of the Ric325 V82. Looks like it had a very bad neck break at one time in it's history.

And a large pic of John's Ric325 V81 as it is now. Restoration done by luthier Ron DeMarino in 1972. Suttle differences: Notice the spacing of the bottom strings, the pickup switch knob is black and the nut is white. www.thecanteen.com/hamburg.html

As you can see in the picture, the low E string in nearly off the fretboard the higher you go up the neck. The reason is the base of the bowtie hitting the pick guard. I also had this problem when setting up my guitar and its also the main reason why I got a luthier to do it. He reshaped the bowtie base and made it slightly smaller so the the strings would line up correctly and to look at it you would never know he did it.

Can I ask how badly the sound would be affected by the guitar having a crack like that. Also when you are talking top of the range guitars what do you actually pay for? Are they considered investment pieces? is the sound that much better?.

Are they considered investment pieces? is the sound that much better?. I'm wondering if this is a crack or a joint, because the previous owner made a point in the E bay ad that there are "No breaks or crack anywhere" Although it's an odd place for a neck joint and there appears to be evidence of glue around the sides of the neck joint in the video. My personal opinion is that you cannot buy guitars these days as investments, you'll only lose money on them. The only person who makes money from guitars is someone who had the foresight to buy a classic many many years ago and has hung onto it and kept it in pristine condition. Just an example, Gretsch made a limited number of custom shop Duo-jets with identical specs even down to the scratches of Georges guitar a few years back and charged $20,000 US for them. Some poor guy from Ireland has been trying to sell his for a few months now for $10,000 US.

How about V86, found in a dumpster! Why can't I be that lucky devil riding down the street and spotting that!! Also in the interview with Ron DeMarino he says he put a gold pg on it and kept the old one, but now it's white so who did that? Certainly not John.

Thought I would add a new reply here that my avatar is now a Guyatone LG50 guitar like the one Johnny Guitar Byrne used in Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.

Hey kiddies, here's my pick guard up close. I got bored with the plain white and I haven't relic'd the guitar very much through various kinds of abuse, so I pasted the London underground map on it. People say I'm the zaniest kid on the block! Someone at London Transport must have snatched the idea from you Amadeus, Fender made a limited edition of 50 Strats for them and I managed to get the last one.

Some sensational instruments in this thread. My collection is fairly mundane. Like most guys in Liverpool, I started with a cheap acoustic... [With my Rosetti, about 1962]I upgraded to a better "cello guitar"... [Hofner Senator, similar to mine]About six years ago I decided to try to learn bass guitar, and bought this model, based on the Gibson shape, which I'd always liked: [Epiphone bass]I then bought a Strat online, which was a mistake, as this particular model has a fretboard too narrow for my rather large hands... [Squier Strat] Another bass was added which, as you can see, I added the bridge cover ["ashtray"], pickup cover and thumb-rest, as per the original design. Finally, I saw this Gigson SG clone in a second hand shop, at a really good price, and tried it out. This time my hands fit fine, and, although I'm by no means serious about the guitar, I noodle about, playing chords on this: [Vintage copy of Gibson SG]Finally, in light of the superb Strat with London Undergorond map shown above, perhaps I should put this map on one of my guitars:

Here's my stable! I've had lots of guitars over the past 40 years but here's the group I've had since 2012. Not into collecting so I like to have 1 of each type of guitar that I might need. L to R...Epiphone Dove acoustic, Ovation Balladeer 12 string, Takamine Jasmine classical, Epiphone Les Paul Custom, 1983 Rickenbacker 4001, Fender Strat. Both the Les Paul and the Strat have custom pickups and wiring. Here are my slide guitars. A pair of 1967 Fender 400 8 string pedal steels (one I play, the other's for spare parts) and a custom 8 string console/lap steel I rebuilt myself. It began life as a horrible, virtually unplayable home made pedal steel I unfortunately purchased from a "no returns" seller on ebay. I could either scrap it or try to turn a lemon into lemonade so I rebuilt it into a console/lap steel

Interesting video on the making of the Hofner Violin bass:
I was surprised to see that they fit the pickups after the instrument has been strung.
