Darned impressive stuff! In the '70s, El Degas was a popular entry level brand of guitar around here. (Canada). And they were pretty good quality too for the price. Well, me and Mrs. A were driving around one night several years ago at night in a neighbourhood where the '70s kids had long since grown up and left home and left their teenage fantasy of being rock stars behind and "grown up"., it happened to be a garbage night, and it looks like the older 'empty nester' parents were cleaning house, probably asked the adult kid if he wanted his bass guitar, he said no and mom and dad chucked it! We drove by and I spotted the neck sticking up out of the rubbish and stopped the car and told Mrs. A. to get out and grab that guitar looking thingy and I'd stay in the car and keep it running. Because she loves me (or something close to it) she got out and pulled this thing out of the curbside garbage. We took it home and not only did it work, it sounds GREAT, and plays extremely well. Here is my El Degas P-bass. It used to be Olympic Blue but the 'kid' painted it silver evidently. I added a couple of stickers, painted my band name on it, found a couple of stray nobs to replace the missing ones and had a very nice instrument indeed. Here's what I play it through. A 100 W Yorkville that I borrowed from a friend 20 years ago. It can probably be described as 'stolen' by now.

Where's everybody else's guitars and gear? Huh! 194? Arthur Hensel - Artist model When I started to take guitar lessons in the winter of '75/'76, my mum gave me her dad's old guitar for me to learn on. I still have it and the sound can be best described as warm. Of course it's kind of battered, what with having a kid learning to play on it. It was a Canadian company and it seems that they were made in Toronto through the '30s and '40s. A small business, a small shop. I guess Arthur Hensel sold them himself and made guitars for some department stores. Well, I have one! It has a binding on the body and a bound neck. It has a wooden nut. It has brutal ugly square edged frets and a very wide fretboard. And having no truss rod, gave it vertigo inducing action with a bent neck. But it's all original. No cracks in the wood or anything although the holes in the bridge are wearing. Otherwise...

That guitar has alot of character Amadeus! A thing of beauty to me. Looks like there may have been a leftie using it at one time. I have an old Harmony that my deceased uncle gave me from the late '50's. It's the same model that Dylan is holding on the back cover of his 'Tell Tale Signs' cd booklet.

Me Again! Here's some more stuff. Toys I mostly got in the '80s. The MXR Chorus is from the last few years because my Ibanez from '87 burned out and started making a sound like 'boiling porridge'! I don't like porridge!

Wozza, do you own some sort of museum dedicated to The Beatles or do you have a room in your house that's permanently set up to look like one? I've seen other photos of your instrument collection and its very staged.

Wozza those are nice guitars, but you'll never earn a living from them! I collect this stuff because I love the Beatles music, and I like trying to mimic and play it. Someone in my family will cash in on it one day but I'll never sell it.

I have no probs with anyone coming over for a jam but it might be a bit difficult considering I am in Australia.

Australia? No Problem. Just a quick 22 hours away. It's a dawdle.
So, when are you going to get a bass 'coffin' amp?

I personally think your collection is fantastic my friend! What's next on your agenda? I didn't see a Rocky hanging on the wall.

I didn't see a Rocky hanging on the wall. Well thanks for that, I am rather proud of what I have so far. Funny you should mention Rocky, because I've been chewing this one over for quite some time. I'm not silly enough to pay ridiculous money for a 61 Sonic blue strat and then cruel it by painting over it. But what I have done is bought a sonic blue Custom shop strat from Andy Babiuk (the guy who did Beatles Gear) who has them made in the same spec as the original and give me a little while and Rocky will make an appearance. www.andybabiuksfabgear.com/fender-custom-shop-beatle-spec-sonic-blue-1961-relic-stratocaster-electric-guitar/

Not sure if anyone noticed but back towards the top of page 2 there is a pic of my drum kit, then down towards the bottom there is the Gallotone resting against my drum kit. These are actually different kits, I have 2 of them. The first one is a 1967 super classic with larger bass, tom and floor tom. The second set is a smaller 1965 downbeat kit.
