Hi, while recently clearing out my grandads loft I found The Beatles Collection which is a black box with large gold writing on the front. Inside there is 24 7 inch singles. 23 of them are in the original covers which are in a green cover with the album pic on the other side. The other 1 has the cover lost but all 24 singles are in the box. I can display footage if needed. Does anybody know if this item is rare? Thank you

Hi. That's (for me anyway) a tough one to get info on. The blue 1982 box set with picture sleeves is a bit more common. But you have the " green series" from 1976. I'm still trying to find info on how many were pressed etc. Yours has 24 records whereas the 1978 pressing of the same set included one more single. Check the catalogue #. is it: Parlophone/Apple BS24 or Parlophone/Apple/World Record Club. The mail order record club articles are usually worth more. One price guide site I stumbled across and then lost, had them listed for about $52, but that might be a low estimate. eBay is usually the accurate price guide these days and I've seen lots of people selling these singles off individually for between 5-10 Pounds Sterling. Personally ,I'd be thrilled to find an intact collection in the black box rather than hunting down one green single at a time. Google key words are " The Beatles Singles Collection 1962-1970 green series" and it was issued in 1976My opinion is that they're rare.

That be it! What's funny is I forgot I even had it until I seen this thread! lol Someone gave it to me as a Christmas gift probably in 1982.

I just checked some of the prices that these box sets sold for on eBay: There was a Green Box Set 24 singles sold last week for only $120. A Black Box with 24 singles sold for about the same money. A Blue Box Set 27 singles sold for $180 and the Aussie Red Box Set sold for $210!

I'd love to have got this one in 1980, as it's worth a few hundred $ right now. Not so I could make money off of it, but just because I'd like to have it and it would've been cheaper then. You see.

I don't ever remember seeing that set. There are a couple of funny stories about the time I worked in a record store in the 80's and we use to buy back peoples albums. No more than a buck apiece. One time I wasn't there (or it would have been mine today) a gentleman brought in the Beatles LP box set i think there were 12 or 13 mono lps in it and the kid I was working with bought it! 13 bucks! I think that listed for over a hundred bucks back then. The guy didn't care he said it was a gift and he didn't like the Beatles. lol Another time i missed out was someone brought in the Wedding Album with all the case candy in the box in perfect condition. My little friend gave him two bucks for that one!

While we're comparing collectables that we missed out on; In '86 or'87, a store in my area was selling a (U.S.) Butcher Sleeve for $900 Canadian. I HAD the money but at the time I thought, that's a collectable way out of my price range. Who'd of thought that I could put a good downpayment on a house with it today!!! In '92 I had a Let It Be Box Set in VG shape in my hands and could have it for $200. It wasn't quite in the same collectable league as The Butcher Sleeve at the time, so I thought to my self, $200? That's a bit rich for me. Maybe one day I'll make a list of all my "missed out on" collectables.

Comes in LP and cassette form that one. Think i got it for xmas a few years back...... the sleeves are completely different to UK or US presses and i think the tracks are shuffled around a bit too. If i ever find all my records once i've moved I'll let you know.

Didn't the cassette version come out a couple of years after the vinyl? The cassette always mixes the tracks around for time constraints on each side of the tape. I started with a cassette copy of the White Album and side one ended with "Blackbird" and side two began with"Happiness..." Side three ended with "Rev 1" and side four began with "Sexy Sadie" So when I finally got the vinyl, with the proper running order, it sounded 'wrong'.
Alix, are you Aussie? Summer Holidays in Dec and all that?

The LPs in that set are also funny track orders from what i remember. nope i'm a brit - in fact was at the Macca Liverpool gig, and 24hrs ago (well from the time i type this - not when you'll be reading it) i was on the M62 returning to stoke and a boiler that is officially 'kaput' - that's the technical term the gas man used this afternoon! So right now i wish i was in oz as i wouldn't need central heating

Wow. I didn't know that 'kaput' was the technical term. Where I am it's been pretty much spring time all winter.
