I called into the grand old lady that is The Adelphi hotel at the weekend, the hub of IBW and got to thinking, which one of it's many bars/function rooms is the best to watch live bands/solo acts during IBW?
On offer is: • The Main Ballroom • Fridays Bar • Cromptons Bar • Wave Bar • The Crosby Suite • The American Bar
What do you reckon folks?

I've always like the intimacy of the American Bar - good for a sing-song and a bit of tambourine playing too!
And the Main Ballroom is ideal for the bigger gigs (Overtures!).
I used to really like the old night-club which used to be on the side of the Adelphi some years ago - it's now been modified into the Wave Bar but used to be called Fridays I think. It was much bigger in those days though and had a good stage and a dance area - can't think of anywhere that has that now.
Worst room is The Crompton Suite I think.

I've always like the intimacy of the American Bar - good for a sing-song and a bit of tambourine playing too!. Yeah, the American Bar is like the kitchen - whenever you have a house party all your guests always end up in the kitchen/dining room drinking late into the night! And it never seems close, which is good Great for solo acts, Jan Owen; Jay Murray; Tony Murtagh... Elvis! I agree re: CRAPtons, er Cromptons, too long and narrow, only about 6 people at the front can see anything, it's ok to pop in to get served, chill out / sit down / chat, so long as you don't mind not seeing a band in that room. I'm not too keen on Fridays, awkward shape, but it's ok. Best vantage point there I think is by the fire exit, although that means you are behind the band. I like The Ballroom, plenty of room to move around and there is another break-out room beyond that, good for being in the thick of the action, but not too loud that you can't have a chat. I never new The Wave before the re-fit, I like this bar, some raised areas act as a good vantage points for bands. I think my fave is The Crosby Suite, some good memories of seeing Merseybeat Argentina in there last year. No stage as such, but that does not matter as you get a good view of the bands from wherever you are.

I'm a Norwegian been to BW 4 times. Once I stayed at adelphi the hole week. Instead of staying in one room for the whole day, you must check out which gigs are worth listening to. I also think the organizer of the BW set up type of gigs suitable for the types of rooms. Me I love to surfe around from bar to bar hunting for the best shows. My next BW will be next year.
