I do .
At the beginning of the Solo years George Harrison`s All Things Must Pass blew Macca and Lennon out of the water , then it was Ringo with a few hits and of course the great Ringo album
Then Band On The Run happened and it was Macca all the way with many hits on top of conquering America in 76/77
Funny even though Macca`s albums after Band On the run wer`nt strong albums he sold them by the load
I know people who wer`nt Beatle fans bought the albums in the 70`s , so it seems that he had a "commercial" selling point .
Even myself I was buying Wings singles and albums before The Beatles
I`m just going off memory here but apart from My Sweet Lord , which my older brother bought I do not even remember people bringing up Harrison , Lennon or Ringo as must buy records back then .
After I got into The Beatles I then started buying other Beatle Solo stuff , my first was in fact a "Best Of " Lennon`s Shaved Fish
After that my Solo collection snowballed to a rate of an album a month !
As for the end of the 70`s as I remember that I sat listening to the Radio as they did a full show on London Town , as much as the album was`nt a great album , Macca still had the pulling power and queing for 6 hours for concert tickets the love for Macca was still strong .
Then 1980 came along .
That day in December was another twist in the Solo years for The Beatles and indeed John Lennon as all of a sudden eveyone loved John Lennon and The Beatles , and after a year or so the wave of love for The Beatles had slowed down again and with birth of MTV and "Fashion" you did`nt need much talent to get on T.V. to sell your wares
Music really went from The Album was king to Frankie Say`s Relax
The Lennon cash cow had been truly milked and George was just doing albums that was no way commercial and not often and as for Ringo he was just a Party celeb and for Macca , well that`s another story . ( Frog song ?!)
But as I remember very fondly that the 70`s for me absolutely brilliant , the rate of solo albums I were buying was unreal , by 1979 I owned
all John , George , Paul`s solo albums and 2 of Ringo`s even the bad ones , Two Virgins , Wedding album, etc etc
How many people do you know went on holiday and came back with two Macca albums ?
And I still have them .
I hope that answers you question Pothos
And if you have anymore questions . Fire away !
