Backlog post .
The Hurdy Gurdy Man - Donovan (1968)
Had this album for many years and I confess it`s one of 2 I`ve bought of the man I do like Donovan don`t get me wrong , I`ve seen him and met him twice in the 80`s and just recently ( Don`t what you call this decade !) Anyway , back to it It`s all over the place His early albums ( yes I know what I typed ) are good to a point when he sticks with Folk But he really is .. One on his own Not a great album , but not a bad album if your doing the pots . Interesting thing though for you Bush fans out there At the end of the track he sings " What happened to ya " And it very much sounds like "It`s really happening to ya " as Miss Bush sings on Red Shoes And we all know Bush was into Donovan so much she covered one of his songs
Which brings me next up
For The Roses - Joni Mitchell ( 1972 )
This again is an album I`ve had for so long I forgot and I forget how brilliant it is. To follow Blue, which in my humble is one the greatest albums ever made must have been a right mind blower ! But this is just as good and seems to written by someone who is in her late 30`s let alone 29 ! Just a fabulous album and really is a poetetic pleasure Brilliant Ok then Bush fans Now it`s right to say Kate was aware of Joni She gets a nod on the track Blow Away Now play this album back to back with The Kick Inside and you will be blown away at the subjects come up on both albums And when I get a good hour or so I will give you a run down on it Of course as always these are just my own thoughts and if anyone thinks the same ,let me know , so I don`t feel so silly

Didn't Led Zeppelin (bar Plant) play on the track Hurdy Gurdy Man. I do not know that Joni Mitchel LP so cannot comment on the Kate connections.

Donovan did this album when he came back from India with the fabs Apparently George H wrote a verse for the title track Hurdy Gurdy Man but it got cut out ! You would have thought this album would have had a bit of a "cosmic vibe" with the talent he had around him .

Bundles - Soft Machine ( 1975 ) Via You Tube
I`m not a huge fan of this band and I`ve listened to this and that over the years and then I hit upon this album And it`s a cracker ! (barring the weird drum section near the end ) The opening track is a hell of track ! and the whole album is instrumental so you don`t need to worry about learning the words

Lovely Rita I agree with your comments on The Prodigy. .
Vangelis - Portraits/Greatest Hits.
An old boyfriend got me into Vangelis some weird yet utterly stunning tracks and I always had a soft spot for the stuff he did with Jon Anderson.
Best Track - I Hear You Now.

I intend to listen to more Soft Machine for sure .
Well I finally got dusting !
Dusty In Memphis - Dusty Springfield ( 1969 )
Yep , it`s tough to say anything negative about this album I guess it`s coffee table and it really makes you think about wallpaper and those old record cabinets , but it is a fry`s creme bar classic Full of covers of course , but the last track ( I Can`t Make It Alone ) blew my mind as it`s covered by a fav of mine Maria McKee Stand Out Track Son Of A Preacher Man . ( What else !)
175 .
I think I may go a bit mainstream this week . Now then ...

One LP I so very nearly purchased was;
Vangelis - Heaven and Hell. (Theme From Cosmos) (vinyl) I think it is worth a lot of money now but I spent weeks trying to decide whether to get a copy as I passed the shop window of the record store that had placed it in its window.

I knew that Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were active studio musicians before forming LZ. Seems that Jones had arranged "There's a Kind of Hush" for Herman's Hermits (nice trombone parts) and that at least Jones and Page had played on a lot of hit records. My impression is that they were to a lot of British rock bands as The Wrecking Crew (Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye, and a whole bunch of others) were to American bands.

Didn't 10cc work as backing musicians to Neil Sedaka.
Also didn't The Band and Steppenwolf play on record behind the Legendary Gene Vincent.

...and it`s raining
Yes Prog fans , it`s yet another Prog album ..
Pig View - Regal Worms 2018 ( Via Youtube )
Well what can I say ! for the most part it`s bloody bonkers and yet brilliant This seems to be a mish mash of all the underground Prog of the 70`s with an bizzare touch of Frank Zappa Or I could be wrong Anyway it`s a very freak out 70`s Prog , that really in a few plays could have me hitting the buy button This "band " are from Sheffield of all places , seems Prog is in the air up them hills Out Standing Track ! Rose Parkington They Would Not Let You Leave

Abba: The Album (1978) (Vinyl)
Given to me as a present from my parents I have a conscious memory of this being one of their first studio LP's I owned. Interesting cover and filled with tracks that became classics such as Take a Chance or The Name of the Game is veers of into both folk prog (Move On) and more ambient pop prog moments (The Eagle) easily one of their most underrated tracks ever. This still stands up 40 years on.

Led Zeppelin II (Vinyl)
This just blew me away when I first heard it no rock band could shock me like this as a kid.
Best Track - Whole Lotta Love.
Blondie - Best of. (CD)
I was just a touch too young to really appreciate them at their height but what stuck in my mind was that at 12 years old the most sophisticated girl in our class was a massive fan and over time and many listens I got what all the fuss was about.
Best Track.
Fade Away and Radiate.
Depeche Mode - The Singles 86/98 (CD)
After the departure of Vince Clarke and the band really embracing the dark side the world they created became gothic in the extreme. How Dave Gahan is still here I will never know.
Best Track - Home

Stand Out Track NGC 891 174 i'm afraid, ive not heard of them. However on a prog tip Sky Arts last night showed ELP at the Isle of Wight from 1970. I have one single and one album by them . Their live album Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, only bought it for Hoedown. My favourite drummer is Keith Moon but just watching a few minutes near then of this concert i'd have to say Carl Palmer is the greatest drummer . I've never seen such incredibly fast drumming, mind you the criticism of the band was although they were talented they played everything at 100 miles an hour.
