I just couldn't get into The Housemartins. I have 'London 0, Hull 4' and I love the album cover but I just can't play the music.
Among my favorites from that time are of course those four lovable moptops from Liverpool.

I did like that Split Enz song, when it first came out on the radio. Today was the first time I ever saw the video!!!!!!!!! Txs pothos.

Ok, after watching many of the above videos, I still remember why I hated the 80’s and still mock people who listened to this stuff. But, here is another one that I liked, and believe it or not, Today is the first time I’ve seen the video!

Whatever. So I like my share of nihilism in music. Not many could beat the Birthday Party for scrappiness and such. Release The Bats indeed. Of Cabbages and Kings from Chicago. Not much known about them but I love that 1988 album.

Some more black clouds. Music for killing yourself to... Over and over and over again!
Skinny Puppy. One of the first truly great industrial bands. And they're from Canada.(Near Europe)

Always had a soft spot for the Birthday Party. Skinny Puppy always gets name checked by John Grant as an influence.

Ok, enough of your sappy 80’s shit, this was what rocked my world in the 80’s.

Very good. This stuff has a thread already for the regular rock and metal stuff.
This thread was intended to focus on the bands and musicians that looked beyond rock music. Something new. But I remember why I went off rock music in the 80s. The tights and hair and prancing around pouting behavior that was every bit as silly as anything on this thread. And the big mouthed fans.
However in my high school in the early 80s all the punks, rockers, new wavers etc got along well with a lot of mutual respect.

Say... what if we had a dedicated hair metal thread? (Oh, and Bongo, I think you forgot the Big 4. )

Very good. This stuff has a thread already for the regular rock and metal stuff. This thread was intended to focus on the bands and musicians that looked beyond rock music. Something new. Metal was the new thing in the 80's Amadeus. Just not for you! It came from the Acid Rock of the 70's like Black Sabbath etc....
And please don't take it personal when I say that all that those videos above just sucked in my opinion. I was a Metal rebel in the 80's, and could not stand that shit and others like Boy George, etc...
This is an 80's thread, those are all 80's music I posted.

Don't mistake me for a non-metal fan. Certain ones of those bands figured highly on my record player. Iron Maiden was a big one. Being a prog fan as well, I was a big fan of a Canadian band called Voivod. From Quebec. Not really any commercial potential but they certainly rocked my world.
And sappy? I couldn't stand Boy George! Did you listen to the Bauhaus song, Double Dare? I don't THINK it's sappy.
Anyway I was an adolescent then (early 80s) and music tends to have the biggest impact on you in those years and I was blitzed from all angles with all those different genres, punk, post punk, new wave, metal, prog, classic rock and the works. So all of the stuff in this particular vein I'm mining here evokes very intense feelings and memories.
In the metal vein, I think it hit the golden years with the introduction of Dio to Sabbath and the rise of Iron Maiden.
I do believe pop music hit it's nadir in the 80s with Boy George and Tiffany, but I always tended to avoid top 40.
Anyway, like I said, I had a great interest in bands and groups that were looking beyond rock music which was also new.
Anyroads, here's some of my favorite 80s metal.

Continuing my duties as resident non rocker, Here's two sides of the early 80s I liked. One with a great song, another with just garage thrashing. Really! I could do that!
Why do I like this one? I just love the scrappy sound. An added bonus is watching the faces of people hearing this for the first time. If they wrinkle their nose in disgust, I'm satisfied.

Amadeus.
First of all you are not Mark Kermode are you as he is obsessed with the Comsat Angels and I like that track. The Gordons; New to me and bloody brilliant. The Beat. Always a great band and that sound still sounds wonderful Track four. My brain is still processing but love the sound but on the video; Bet they are banned from B&Q.
