The only place that looked right to put this was here. If it should be somewhere else, the mods are welcome to move it. Now, we all want to know what it would be like had the Beatles not broken up. So, my challenge is to make a Beatles album using songs from their solo career. RULES: All songs must be from the same year. There has to be at least one song per Beatle. I'm very curious on what you will dig up!

Thanks for moving it then. So what does a model train have to do with the Beatles again? Did Paul like trains? Anyway, any ideas?

I'm gonna break the rules (again). In my mind, three of the Beatles output was inconsistent and I couldn't do a yearly album. A few years ago I made a playlist of one album covering '70 - '74. This was my 60 minute '70's dream album.
Too Many People Mind Games Wah-Wah It Don't Come Easy Monkberry Moon Delight Gimme Some Truth Let It Down NIGHT AND DAY. Maybe I'm Amazed what_you_got Isn't It A Pity I'm The Greatest Oh Woman, Oh Why God All Things Must Pass Early 1970

A great album! I'll let the rule-breaking go, I suppose. What would you call the album?

Hmm,,, I don't know. I think 'Mind Games' and 'All Things Must Pass' are brilliant titles.
A lot of the songs I picked seem to contain a bit of angst so, one of the above titles...

The only thing with the notion of what if the Beatles had not broken up, is the paradox that some of the songs, particularly John's were driven by the breakup.
Having said that, I'll get back with you using the original rules and come up with an album of songs from 1970. And maybe 1971 afterwards.

I would have put out an LP in 1970 called “Get Back”

Album from late 1970:
Mother Love I Found Out Remember Isolation Maybe I'm Amazed Junk That Would Be Something My Sweet Lord Isn't It a Pity Wah-Wah What is Life All Things Must Pass Beaucoups of Blues
Three things to remember about the above list: 1. Not in the order that the songs would have appeared. 2. Some of the songs were written because of the breakup, so therefore, if the Beatles were still together, the songs might have not been written. 3. Not sure how many George songs would have been allowed by Beatle office politics. But George was at his peak.
Also, this was done off the top of my head. Can't remember what singles Ringo had that were not on the standards album or the country album. Sometime I might do a 1971 album. I like the concept of this thread.

Thanks, DT. I wonder if the other Beatles would have noticed how much "My Sweet Lord" sounded like "He's So Fine." But I do wonder why Phil Spector didn't catch it. Did he think George would get away with it?

That's a good question. I never actually ever heard 'He's So Fine' yet. But 'My Sweet Lord' is a pretty popular song on some radio stations, and I personally like it.

The 1971 album: Imagine Gimme Some Truth Oh My Love Jealous Guy Crippled Inside It's So Hard Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey Too Many People It Don't Come Easy Beware of Darkness Another Day
By this time most albums only had 10 or 11 songs, so I hope this is sufficient. It appears I prefer John's early solo output over Paul's. Obviously, John's brilliant "How Do You Sleep," featuring George on slide guitar, would not have appeared on a Beatle album. It would not have even been written, in our little alternative universe.

Thanks, DT. I don't think I'll do a 1972 album. Not familiar with the Wings Wild Life album and not really fond of the Some Time in New York City album. And George didn't put out another album until 1973.

Okay, 1973:
Mind Games Intuition Out of the Blue You Are Here Big Barn Bed My Love Hi Hi Hi Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth) Photograph I'm the Greatest Oh My My
Yeah, I know, three Ringo vocals, but John wrote "I'm the Greatest" and George co-wrote "Photograph."

1974:
Mind Games Whatever Gets You Through the Night (with Paul singing Elton's part) No. 9 Dream Steel and Glass (I don't think this was about McCartney. It just sounds like "How Do You Sleep," sort of.) Bless You Scared Band on the Run Let Me Roll It Helen Wheels Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five Dark Horse Back Off Boogaloo Goodnight Vienna (written by John, sung by Ringo. Maybe John could do his own lead vocal on this hypothetical album)

Okay, if all songs must be from the same year, and all Beatles must be represented, there were years where some of them did not put out new material. In fact, John didn't release any new original after 1974 until 1980.
One of the reason late '70s top 40 pop was so dull was solo Beatles didn't put out much during this period. Maybe that is why I became a Billy Joel fan.
