I think in the day meeting Paul you would probably got a better reception he's more inclined to be matey and I think he liked being a star more. I think John on the whole was a better Songwriter / Singer up until Rubber Soul / Revolver time when Paul edged ahead.
After all this time I still can't quite work out Lennon was he possibly Bipolar? he seemed to go from witty, funny and friendly to rude and general a pain, and seemed to go a bit strange after he met Yoko.
Could his early life with it's tragedies have made him this way? still love his enormous contribution to the Beatles although he said he didn't like it himself his voice was excellent sadly we will never know what he would have been like if he had finally got rid of all his demons. Summing up Paul the Melody man John the Lyricist.

For a long time I myself have wondered if John was bipolar. A lot of creative people are bipolar. Did his early life tragedies make him that way? There's always the nature vs. nurture argument, but I believe we are all the way we are because of a combination of the two. Not being a mental health professional, I don't know if external stimuli can trigger manic or depressive episodes.
And did Alma Cogan's death cause a slowdown in John's creative output? Another thread on this forum informs us that before meeting Yoko, John had an adulterous fling with Ms. Cogan that he hid from Cynthia, but she knew anyway.
But John had so much baggage in his nurturing. I can imagine that when he was singing "Shake it up baby, twist and shout" in his mind he was thinking "Mother, you had me, but I never had you."
If he was not bipolar, or at least depressed, then what was Dr. Arthur Janov treating him for? He was the one with the primal scream treatment.
At least the drugs and mental illness did not totally destroy his creative output to the extent that it did Beach Boy Brian Wilson's.

I couldnt agree with you anymore to be honest. Perfect way to put it. As far as John being bipolar, maybe it is the case. I always tell my friends that John was my favorite up to 65/66. Then Sgt Pepper came around and I think he may have done too much acid and turned him into someone hes not.. thats when I started liking Paul more. Good feedback though, appreciate it

Are we talkin Music or Personalities ? As Beatles ? As Solo Artists ?
Anyway . This must be the hardest question to ask a life long Beatle fan which on here there is many .
McCartney was my first introduction to the Beatles , Hey Jude and Solo stuff Band On the Run , Ram,Red Rose and Wild Life I did`nt hear a Lennon Solo album proper as Shaved Fish and Rock N Roll were my first albums of his.
So in the beginning McCartney was my favorite up till late 77 and the I got Imagine and got into Lennon`s later Beatle stuff I Am The Walrus , Strawberry Fields , Tomorrow Never Knows and further down the line with the brilliant John Lennon Plastic Ono Band album . Also absolutely loved Walls And Bridges
Sadly for me McCartney`s Solo stuff after Back To The Egg was very hard for me to take seriously as I was getting into a lot of great Music that really was leaving Macca in the shade .
Then of course Lennon`s come back was put to a halt by a nutter .
So I do think them as equals as Beatles As for solo Lennon just edges it For personalities . Lennon . As for him being Bipolar Have you ever met a Genius who is a normal average person. ? All Genius`s have flaws Someone who wrote Imagine and All You Need Is Love can`t possibly depressed can they ?

Same here, except even "Back To The Egg" was a disappointment to me, but definitely Macca was my Fav as a Beatle and solo artist. Then I started appreciating more of Johns Beatle stuff, but final answer: Paul!
