I have recently acquired the bricks from the famous Penny Lane Barbershop on Penny Lane, Liverpool. The building is a particularly popular cultural hotspot with Japanese and American tourists.
Due to subsidence, the main bulk of the two storey building had to be demolished in May 2008. Each of these bricks has been preserved after a careful demolition.
The glass front of the shop still stands, and is now mainly made up of plastic due to tourists removing tiny fragments of the building as mementos over the years!
The barbershop is obviously well known for being mentioned in the song "Penny Lane" by The Beatles. It is situated just by the bus stops in the Mossley Hill area of Liverpool - John would often get off the bus here from school and nip into the barbers for a haircut. The Magical Mystery Tour and various taxi tours stop off at the barbershop on a daily basis to have photos taken inside and to walk along Penny Lane.
I can provide the following as proof of authenticity:
-Structural Engineer's Report -Council Building Inspector's Report
I have photographic evidence of both the demolition in progress and the condition of the bricks now.
There are approximately 2500 individual bricks from a two-storey demolition.
The bricks are due to be auctioned in autumn in London. Most of the bidding is expected to come from Japanese bidders.
If anybody would like more information you can contact me on this email: john989898@hotmail.com
Thanks,
John Porter Liverpool, UK

Is this the barber shop called Olivetti's? Tony Slavins. I've not read anything about a 'demolition' of the Penny Lane Barber Shop here in the local press, does not make the start of this thread untrue, but few things where the city of Liverpool are concerned escape my attention, Beatles or otherwise.

The barber shop in the song is 'Tony Slavin's' today, but used to be called 'Bioletti's' in the 60s.
It is still there today - I am getting my hair cut there (reminds me, need to go soon).

Wilf Ah that's it - Bioletti's (not Olivetti's - that's a make of typewriter!) Thanks for clearing that up Wilf. And welcome to The Beatle Forum AL
