I have an interesting question I think. I don't recall anyone in the early Liverpool groups (probably over 350 of them) having a Fender telecaster. I know George finally got that special one for the roof concert in '69, but I want to know if anyone else had one before that. The import embargo was lifted sometime in the late '50's when Hank Marvin got his Fender strat, so it should be around the early '60's I would imagine, but like I said I don't remember seeing anyone with one.

Well, for starters, Fender guitars didn't get to be popular until well past the first wave of British invasion bands. The only group I remember have any kind of Fenders were the Dave Clark 5, with a Stratocaster and a Precision Bass (unless it was a Jazz). I don't even remember any Fender basses in the first British invasion bands.
I associate Telecasters with Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, an American country & western band.
Fenders are a LOT more popular now than they were in the '60s. Must be the Jimi influence. And later Clapton when he got several Strats, took them apart, and put one together with the best neck, pickups, body, etc.

Well there were a few biggies that had them, Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page when they were with the Yardbirds in '64. Albert Lee had an early one. Syd Barret had his with mirrors glued to it. lol But I don't recall any of the Liverpool musicians with one.
