I'm just watching Elvis Costello on Sky Arts, and he is telling the story of how his dad performed on the Royal Command Performance on the same bill as The Beatles. His interviewer said that John got into trouble with his "rattle you jewellery" comments, and Elvis agreed. This is the first time I've ever heard about John getting into trouble with this. I always thought it accepted as part of their famous "scouse humour"! Has anyone else ever heard this?

I've never heard this either. In all honesty I can't see why he would have got into trouble for it nor would he have been bothered. In fact I would go as far to say that comment helped him immensely towards the handle of the intellectual Beatle.
The only negative story I am aware of around this is that he threatened he was going to say 'I'll just tell 'em to rattle their f**king jewellery' back stage before they went on. Brian Epstein was convinced he was going to carry out the threat and panicking!

I only read that Brian was upset with John saying it. He probably thought after all his hard work here's John saying one sentence that could blow everything up. lol Other than that the Royal Family probably had to have someone explain the joke to them.

Interesting that my brother told me that my wife and I could rattle our jewelry at the McCartney concert in New Orleans on the 19th of this month and they he would just applaud, since we have better seats than he does. Which is surprising, since he is a bigger Beatlemaniac than I am and is also wealthier.
I sure hope Paul is getting well.

Make sure we get a full report.

Hey, Rocky, if you see my thread in the Paul Forum, you will see that the concert has been postponed. I already had reservations for a trip that whole week, so I'll have to get my money back.
