Beatles were certainly different since they eventually wrote their own stuff, which started the ball rolling for future bands. I loved Elvis, but he couldn't write a tune if his life depended on it! But what an entertainer!!!!! The same goes with Michael.......

Music is so diverse .
It`s hard to say who has talent and who has n`t . I was listening to records in the 60`s from five years old . Hello Dolly . Juliet , and Glad All Over
At 8 years old I had my first album bought me . ABC - Jackson 5 . Now this is one hell of an album and and young Micheal had talent then , bucket loads .
Other music came along in my life , and I left the Jackson`s behind .
I`m not a Jackson fan now but millions of people loved his music and I have to say the man has talent . Maybe not as a Song writer or Musician .
In my concert going late teen years I picked the bands I liked from their performance`s if they did n`t cut it for me live , I did n`t get into them . Saw Van Halen in 79 , I thought they were crap . Never got in to them .
It is a funny thing I know but over the years and many attempts of trying to learn a guitar you know that it`s not straight forward , 3 chords a few verses and choruses and then having the balls to do it front of total strangers , you do need a bit of talent all musicians are after all human and have flaws .
It`s all about opinions .
Amadeus . This man is a musician and I know a few people who know there stuff about Music but this man blows them out of the water . If he has an opinion , I know that it is a very valuable one , if you agree or not . I have the highest respect for this man and I think anyone who has the love for Music and musicians should listen to what he has to say .

Hey beatlebum i don't know you at all so will not judge. I admit I listen to a few artists that might not be everyone on this forums Cup a tea. I was once like you in fact back in the 1980s I would listen to nothing only The Beatles, The Stones and the Beatles solo. Literally nothing else. Since then though I have gotten into a lot of different genres and found some nuggets like Big Star, Flamin' Groovies and so on. I even had a trip to Nashville and Memphis where I ended up getting more of an appreciation for 'real' country music like Merle Haggard, Gram Parsons, etc. I offer the hand of friendship to you mate I have met a lot of people on this forum that can vouch for that I am a friendly and easy going person. I don't mind a debate at all, as long as it;s kept respectful and friendly. I defo did not come onto this forum to get into some silly argument or be told I have no taste in music. Life's too short innit

i listen to hundreds of artists not just the beatles.you are nothing like me.the difference is all the people i listen to are musicians.so i don't listen to people like michael jackson or one direction or nsync or pussycat dolls or other non musicians like black eyed peas.i have no respect for people like that.and i'm sure most musicians don't either.i don't consider this a silly arguement.you called me a muppet.i don't see any debate.i stated facts about michael jackson.how can you debate this.he hired a team of writers called the west coast writers you can see interviews of them on his bad anniversary dvd special.i have more respect for his brothers tito and jermaine.at least they were real musicians and played bass and guitar.some artists i like, the byrds, buffalo springfield, the kinks, the small faces, love, the moody blues, pink floyd.just to name a few.

Beetlebum - you have already been asked very nicely to stop insulting the fellow contributors to this post but in case it's not clear exactly what constitutes as an insult, I will clarify: saying that someone doesn't have standards, calling someone a liar etc. It's defamatory remarks such as these that are detracting from what could be a very good discussion. Differences of opinion make for very lively debate, which is encouraged on here but personal insults will not be tolerated. Listen to what people have to say, analyse it then address each point with your own opinion - resorting to namecalling only weakens your argument. Be nice! :-) AL

Nobody disagreed that the 'West Coast' guys wrote Jacko's songs. The disagreement was: does he have talent. Singing and dancing is an art form too. And most 'real' musicians I've traveled with, played with, spoken with and read about would agree. And I've been moving in music circles since the '70's and have played in various bands in various diverse genres and played various instruments in all of them, I've scored for chamber orchestras, I've drawn horn charts for pop songs and a jazz band that I played drums in! And all these folks agree that someone like Jacko has talent. And Sinatra for that matter. The real musicians that agreed to participate in Sinatra's 'Duets' albums thought he was talented. U2 and Pavoratti (who can't write a tune or play an instrument to save his life) collaborated. McCartney obviously saw talent in Michael in view of their collaborations.
And I wasn't comparing Keith Richards with Pussycat Dolls, (who brought them up anyway?) I said that he doesn't give a crap. He doesn't care if they don't play an instrument, if they're good at what they do, they're talented. Yum yum.
The ultimate rule should be: if it sounds good and you enjoy it, it's bitchen! If it sounds bad, it's possibly crap.
I thought I'd include some 'real' talent because these chicks play their own instruments.

Did Pete Best have talent? His Mom and him thought he did, plus probably three other people that bought his records. lol Was he a musician, yes the Beatles would not have got their Hamburg gig without him. But I don't understand, why would a musician laugh if you went up to them and asked them if the Pussycat Dolls had talent? Who the hell do you think plays that music behind them that they dance to and gets paid? A musician.... and I'm sure he ain't laughing when he gets home with some money so his family can eat. And as for Michael Jackson having any talent....well he must have had a talent for making money cause he sure had more than me. lol

to the admin al i see you are very biased.you see only one side.he called me a muppet.and something else.but you didnt notice that did you.since you only left a comment for me.i wont call him a liar anymore even though i think he is lying.no musician would call the pussycat dolls talented just for singing and dancing.real musicians have no respect for people in music who can't play it.ive been around hundreds of bands for years and i know this.so if they make money they have talent huh?so i guess by your logic once direction has talent.they are making money.people say michael could sing and dance.but yet he didnt have enough talent to play music.and had to hire a team of writers to write hit songs for him.how can you respect someone like that that has everything handed to them.

No. No one's biased. You're just frustratingly close minded and self righteous. No one here ever brought up Pussy Cat Dolls. It was you. You have an obsession with them and you're probably secretly into them.
Here's the fact. The song writers and musicians that play behind Michael Jackson don't have the talent to front their own band. Michael had the talent to entertain and front the talented backline behind him. together they worked as a team. Together. One without the other would likely have stayed unknown. Fact. And if you repeat the exact same stuff that you've said in your past 20 posts, especially dragging Pussycat Dolls and One Direction into the mix, I'm gonna poo my pants.
You are not listening, you are not giving anybody else any credit for MAYBE knowing more than you do and you are acting very disrespectful. You're NOT presenting an argument, you're presenting a MANIFESTO and you believe that if you shout loud enough you will be right but you DON'T know half of what I've forgotten over the years, let alone half of what I still know.
Ok? I'M a 'real' musician If you bothered to pay attention to any body else's comments, WE all KNOW 'real' musicians. We've read books about 'real' musicians. And all those 'real' musicians that you like will say right off the bat without hesitation that someone like Michael Jackson had loads of talent because he could do something that they couldn't.
And like I said, if you just go on repeating the same thing over and over again, without reading carefully what the comments you're knocking actually say, and without presenting valid arguments and listening to other's valid arguments your maturity level and lack of insight becomes indelibly clear to all who frequent this forum.
Again, you mention Pussycat Dolls, and your other favorites again, and label me a liar for knowing more than you, then why bother responding.
Sincerely. a 'real' musician

if i was closeminded i wouldnt be listening to old music.because almost everybody my age doesnt listen to old music, they only listen to new music, and i feel sorry for them because they're missing out.so dont call me closeminded.i dont give a damn if michael needed a band behind him or had to hire a team of writers you're missing the point.the point is he needed musicians and writers.paul mccartney made a whole album where he played all the instruments and wrote all the songs.1970 mccartney.and i brought up pussycat dolls as an example of a group who cant play music.i cant even name one of their songs and you say im into them haha.i could give another example then.nsync or spice girls or black eyed peas.or one direction.all groups who have to have a band behind them.the only thing michael could do was hire writers to write songs for him and musicians to make the music for him.and you call that talented.ha.i called you liar for saying if you told musicians that nsync or pussycat dolls had talent that they would agree with you.you said they would and i say you're a liar for that, because i know they wouldnt.if michael had talent he wouldnt have needed writers and musicians.john fogerty made an entire album by himself after he broke up with ccr.he did all the instruments.same with mccartney.you know what michael could do.he could do the same thing the pussycat dolls could do.the same thing nsync could do.and the same thing the spice girls could do.and he also couldnt do what they could do either.write songs and play music.

here is something you said in your last post.'but you DON'T know half of what I've forgotten over the years, let alone half of what I still know.'haha and you call me self righteous.you dont know me you dont know how much i know.so dont presume you do know me by saying that you know more than me because that's ignorance.

Exactly my point. You have NO idea about me. You don't know how much I know or have experienced. But you are continually repeating the same thing over and over and (why do you keep bringing up Pussycat Dolls) you will not concede the possibility that maybe you don't know what I do. I've been at it longer than you've been alive so give me a break.
You haven't furnished any proof that all musicians laugh at those who are merely performers and not instrument players or writers and until you do, why are you acting so,,,,,,,,ah why bother.
And I still don't know why I'm a liar. Nobody else has ever told me that. You might want to investigate the implications of calling someone a liar. People tend to get upset or worse, they might dance at you.
tal·ent ˈtalənt/Submit noun 1. natural aptitude or skill. "he possesses more talent than any other player" synonyms: flair, aptitude, facility, gift, knack, technique, touch, bent, ability, expertise, capacity, faculty; More
If you figure that singing and dancing requires no talent, then like I said earlier on: Step up guy.

Oh yeah, uh, and, which blonde? I like the 'red' head but I noticed that they're all top heavy with talent.
