I've never been one for conspiracy theories, but I read this book some years back, and despite some glaring historical errors, it left me wondering if maybe there was more to John Lennon's murder than just a lone nut with a gun. What do you guys think?

I have that book and its the one I am referring to. The book does seriously make you think there was more to it than a lone nut. There are too many similarities between Chapman, Oswald, Sirhan etc to simply ignore. Looking at this objectively ( and not emotionally), one thing that I can't get my head around is why at that point in time when Lennon was completely out of the public eye did Chapman do this? Why not earlier in the 70's? You could then ask then why carry out a conspiratorial assassination then? I'm no expert but my understanding is that Manchurian candidates need a trigger word to carry out their mission. Is it remotely plausible Chapman was programmed earlier on in the 70's by the CIA, his mission aborted but was accidentally triggered in December 1980?
I don't know the answer but I know we are not being told the entire truth about this, Kennedys or other assassinations.
I realise I sound like a lunatic now! It's all in the book, honest!

I have to agree - this book raised some very valid questions. There is absolutely no denying the fact that the CIA had a VERY active interest in Lennon during the seventies and, given John Lennon's high-level media status, his anti-war comments would have been very unpopular with the US governemnt at the time, to say the least.
If you can find this book, it's definitely worth a read - not your usual conspiracy rubbish!

There are far too many similarities between the assassinations to be ignored. The lays this out very well. I believe you can buy the book quite reasonably on Amazon.

Conspiracy or nut ? I have to look at it at the time John was shot . At a tender age of 18 I kinda looked at the world without any bad vibes , the 80`s were a new decade to look forward too and and I never understood the word Cynical .
After John was shot the whole world loved John Lennon . The media , the news papers and the music industry . That early morning shock and Radio playing The Beatles all day and then that night on the BBC news programme Nationwide they had John`s old teacher on talking about what a role model John was . You can Imagine John`s face looking down from his cloud at that one .
Just like when Elvis died the Music industry could`nt get the records out quick enough and X Mas just around the corner . Perfect timing you could say . Then there were the books . We all know how many books came out about the "death" of McCartney and he was still alive and well . Was this the beginning of the Conspracies
Maybe the conspiracy could lie with the corperates getting their big X Mas bonus`s that X Mas morning while the radios played Merry X Mas War Is Over .
I learned the word Cynical as I got older and I think that the people who came up with the Conspracys were the people who could make a lot of money out of it . Sex and death sells . Always has , always will , form Marilyn Monroe to Diana . People die . When they are famous though it is a good way to play on people who are slightly interested on what happened behind closed doors and no ones private life is safe when there is money to be made . The Truth or even the half truth .
I think that John Lennon was murdered by a lunatic who just wanted attention one way or another and you just had to look back with Elvis , the Kennedy`s and even Manson . So how crazed you are , if you kill someone in the spotlight , you are going to be in the news papers all over the world within hours and even get offered book rights . Cynical ? . Was it the media that killed John ?
The world didn`t have a bright future after that cold night in December for me . If a man who had give millions of people pleasure from his songs and a way of life with anthems of All You Need Is Love and Imagine gets shot down in cold blood , what was the future for the people who had grown up with John Lennon being as much part of their lives than any school education or dead end job . John sang Give Peace A Chance . Sadly one nut didn`t get it .

That's an interesting idea: The record company, after having been disappointed with his and Yoko's rubbish new album, needed to sell some Lennon records, so had him assassinated and they (and Yoko) have been in business ever since!
