I am going to sell my vinyl album collection. I have over 350 albums ranging from good condition to pristine condition, both in record and cover quality. The reasons behind my decision are that I no longer play vinyl records (although I have a turntable and I know that there are a lot of 'vinyl junkies' out there) and also the fact that if I keep them indefinitely, as soon as I'm 'gone', my daughter will sell them on in a 'quick buck' scenario. Probably to a jumble sale Some of the albums are very collectable and I guess would be worth a substantial amount of money. A few examples are : Every original Beatles album, purchased at the time of release, the White Album numbered in mono with original photographs and insert. I also have this in stereo. The 'Pepper' album with the original insert intact. The Small Faces 'Ogdens Nut Gone Flake' in the original fold out cover. Jethro Tull 'Stand Up' with pop up inside cover and 'Thick As A Brick' in the original 'newspaper' sleeve. Family 'Bandstand' in original 'television' sleeve. What I consider to be my prize posession is the original pressing of 'From Home To Home' by Fairfield Parlour (ex Kalleidoscope). Now then, I've spent a lot of time on the internet searching for the best (not necessarily the quickest) way and most lucrative way to sell them. It really is a minefield. Suggestions ranging from selling them altogether as a collection (I have them all logged on my computer), selling them seperately after getting them valued either on e-bay or my local free newspapers or touting them round second hand vinyl shops. I also don't want to get ripped off which is a major problem as I only have a vague idea of the worth of some of my albums. By the way, my original Beatles albums are not the 'gold' Parlophone labelled ones Which is where you kind people come in. Now that I've given you the background to my predicament, I would appreciate any advice on how I should go about selling my vinyl albums. Thanks.

Do Not Sell Your Beatle Stuff ! thats about it really . Erm . . . . . . why? They have some kind of sentimental and posterity value but nothing more than that. They are absolutely no good to me gathering dust and possibly doing so until I die.

Ok then I sold my Fotheringay album a few years ago and i have regretted it eversince I think it's a matter of personal preference. I don't know why you've regretted it unless you've discovered that it's now worth £2,000 or something. You can buy the CD for under a tenner, stick it in your CD player and, hey presto, the exact same music (maybe with bonus tracks) as was on your vinyl album will permeate your very being via your speakers.

Yeah, I'm the same - I still have the Beatle records I ruined as a 5 year-old, they're totally un-playable! I could never be a record dealer, I'd end up with all the stock in my bedroom!

Cheers arthurlee I almost forgot what those flares looked like . I will get the cd , and i will never sell it , its coming with me . [/quote] I was reading an article about Sandy Denny in last months 'Q' magazine and it was no surprise to many of her musical aquaintences that she died so young although on the face of it, it was an accident (falling downstairs) but apparently she was almost burned out around that time. She was 'excessive', according to the article which is very sad because she had one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices I have ever heard. A sad loss indeed.

As you may of guest arthurlee i`m a big fan of Sandy Denny , she did indeed have a haunting voice and a great songwriter , i think she had a problem with all the show biz thing that came her way and she hid herself in a bottle , and she was on a downslope before untimely death , but she was a great talent and sadley missed . These are my thoughts on her ,i just think thats how it was
