I read about this song somewhere that I can't remember! The song is called 'Lies' by The Knickerbockers and to this day, there are Beatle fans who look in vain on Beatle compilation albums for this song thinking that it is actually The Fab Four. Have a listen:

Yes. I remember when it came out. Like all bands, there are some who can come up with such a similar sound that it is hard to tell from the originals. Not a negative thing. Think of all the vocalists in the late fifties who sounded like Elvis (esp Terry Stafford). That Kickerbockers song was just amazingly good. And looking back, it did sound close to the Beatles sound at the time.

Not only is it Beatles-esuqe, but the lead singer managwes to pull off a pretty convincing John impression.
