You were also not standing on the original Cavern if you were standing on the car park. The original Cavern was slightly further down the road and actually occupied the space of the current Cavern.

hmm i was led to believe it was used by british rail to park there vehicles when they bulldozed the site then became a car park, but i'm prob wrong and do appologise Apologies are totally unnecessary. There has been so much nonsense written about the location of the Cavern over the years it's not surprising that everyone has a different story. The plan was to bulldoze the Cavern in order to use it as a ventilation shaft for the Liverpool underground train network. However the ventilation shaft ended up being shelved even though the site was bulldozed. Having been born and bred in Liverpool and old enough to remember the car park (an extremely youthful 42 I might add as I am sure certain forum members would attest to!), it was to the right hand side of the current entrance to The Cavern. The original entrance to the Cavern is further down Mathew street in the direction of the Grapes. It now serves as a fire exit to the current Cavern. The side of the fire exit door that looks on to Mathew street actually has a full size image of Paddy Delaney on it who was one of the most well known bouncers on The Cavern and next to this an enscription stating that was were the original entrance was located. A couple of Beatleweeks ago on Beatle Saturday, a number of forum members were in The Cavern when the manager (his name escapes me, blonde guy, youngish, about 42 ) gave us all a very interesting account of entering the original Cavern through the current fire exit and the original stage was in the vicinity of the bar in the back room. Although the current Cavern is apparently much lower than the original.

I've heard the 2 day outdoor concerts are off this year . Is that true ? I don't think that's been confirmed by Liverpool City council yet as it is mainly their event. Cavern City Tours are involved and supply Beatles bands for the festival but its predominantly council driven. The last I heard Liverpool City Council in conjunction with Cavern City Tours would be putting some sort of outdoor event over the Sunday and Monday but no details have been released. I could be wrong though, so if anyone else has other information please let us know. I like to think there will be no such concerns with Beatleweek for the foreseeable future and am glad it is a standalone festival that does not reliant on Liverpool City council.

Great! Lets hope you can stay longer on the Saturday this year! If I remember rightly (and this is exceptional for me in these circumstances!) you went out to the cash machine from the Cavern pub and the bouncer wouldn't let you back in. Is that right?

Ha ha yeah that's true, well almost. It wasn't the cash machine, I'd gone to Subway for something to eat. I'll be there at the end this time...I hope, looking forward to it!

Accommodation booked, not too expensive either. Might pop into The Grapes on the Saturday if we would be welcome.

We meet at 12 noon and usually occupy the back part of The Grapes. See you there! Out of interest, where are you staying?

We've booked into the Ibis; Thursday to Tuesday. Pretty central to most things. On previous trips we stayed at The Hard Days Night Hotel and the Adelphi.
Had thought of booking one of the packages but decided to book accommodation separately and then book things we want to go and see.
Depending on what else is on elsewhere; fancy The Cavern Club Beatles at The Philharmonic; we saw them at The Cavern on a previous visit to Liverpool and they were excellent. Also the Convention and All Nighter; which will probably be when we regret not booking the Adelphi!
Desperate to see Them Beatles play The Cavern.
In general just want to drink in the whole experience, meet like minded people and generally have a brilliant time.
The trip means that I will be missing my football fix that weekend. Not missed by team, the oldest professional team in Glasgow, play since Jan 1st 2005. I may get the notion to catch Liverpool, Everton or more likely Tranmere at some point. I may not be allowed to do that!

I'll be there... working! Hopefully I'll be spending more time at the Adelphi though and I really hope to make time for the meetup at the Grapes!
Since this Liverpool music festival is now on Saturday has anyone had any thoughts on changing the day of the meetup?

Since this Liverpool music festival is now on Saturday has anyone had any thoughts on changing the day of the meetup? I have been reliably informed that this years Sunday convention is an Albums convention again. So I wouldn't want to change the meet to the Sunday. What's wrong with leaving it to the Saturday and people can choose to either go to the outdoor stages or the Cavern/cavern pub after the Grapes.

Call me an old traditionalist .
But I kinda got used to the meet up on a Saturday dinner
Is it almost 6 years since that eventful day when I met Al on the very first Beatle Forum Meet up and lo we went to the Grapes on that Saturday dinner and we did have a drink and then another ....
So then I put forward a vote to stick with tradition .
Call me an old traditionalist .
Many years from now , the landlord of the Grapes may say " Boy ! those were the days my friends when the Pub on a Beatle week saturday dinner was always jolly and much fun with those wonderful Beatle Forum Meet up people . A lo above the bar is a picture of a said meet up . "
Y`never know .
Call me an old traditionalist .
