Call me an old traditionalist . But I kinda got used to the meet up on a Saturday dinner Is it almost 6 years since that eventful day when I met Al on the very first Beatle Forum Meet up and lo we went to the Grapes on that Saturday dinner and we did have a drink and then another .... So then I put forward a vote to stick with tradition . Call me an old traditionalist . Many years from now , the landlord of the Grapes may say " Boy ! those were the days my friends when the Pub on a Beatle week saturday dinner was always jolly and much fun with those wonderful Beatle Forum Meet up people . A lo above the bar is a picture of a said meet up . " Y`never know . Call me an old traditionalist . You're an old traditionalist! Well, what did you expect Mr K? Have to say that the meet up in The Grapes sets me up for the rest of the weekend (I don't usually arrive until late on Friday). I remember having an 'interesting' chat with you last year when I had my daughter with me. I too met Al ('The End' for those uninitiated) at my first Beatleweek in 2006. I was there with my brother and that year I met some great people whom I've seen and socialized with every year since. Looking forward to seeing you all again - and hopefully some newcomers from this forum. In about 19 weeks or so. And for those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting Al, this is him: Sorry Al!! And this is me with 'John & Yoko' (honest!) in The Hard Days Night Hotel. Looking forward to seeing you there.

I'm in a slight (actually, MASSIVE) quandary this year - one of my best friends is getting married on the Saturday so I was contemplating coming home (to London) on Saturday morning and returning to Liverpool on Sunday. But if I did that, I'd miss the Forum meet-up!! Any suggestions (or preferably solutions!) gratefully accepted!!! AL

The Grapes would make an excellent venue for a wedding!

AL Well Al. What you have to ask yourself is these simple questions. 1. If he's 'one of your best friends', then surely he would understand that, with your passion and commitment for all things Beatles, you would rather be in The Grapes in Liverpool than be at a wedding ceremony in London on the Saturday? 2. Where would you rather be? 3. Would the world stop revolving if you missed his wedding (and made apologetic overtures) and went to The Grapes instead? 4. I would buy you a pint in The Grapes. Something I couldn't do if you went to the wedding? 5. Your 'proper' mates would think that you're a right wus choosing a wedding that has nothing to do with The Beatles over a session with your Beatley mates that do have The Beatles in common (including some newcomers to this forum who would be in awe at meeting you)? 6. I would buy you another pint in The Grapes? 7. Statistically, your mate's marriage has a one in three chance of surviving long term. You wouldn't want to witness something that could possibly be unsuccessful? Whereby, The Grapes in Liverpool has 'success' written all over it!? 8. You would (presumably) be getting dressed up in a suit and tie for the wedding. Your mates at The Grapes would welcome you with open arms adorned with your 'mod' target t shirt? 9. Be really blunt and honest with your mate. Tell him to piss off and that you're not going to be inconvenienced by getting a train back to London from Liverpool - and back again - just to see him get married? 10. Invite his prospective wife to the meet up in Liverpool. I would buy her a pint. Your mate would (presumably again) follow her if he loves her. I would buy him a pint. 11. There is no number 11. 12. Come on Al, just think of all your pals that you would be disappointing if you didn't turn up for the legendary meet up. Although you have been known to be late but your mate wouldn't thank you for being late for his wedding, would he? 13. I would miss you ? 13. I'm going to bed now? 14. ]I just wanted to see what would happen if I inserted a image thingy.? The choice, as they say, is entirely yours.

15. As above is without doubt the post of the week and can not be lightly ignored. 16. I guess he is getting on a bit and I just bet that he been married before and that in Gods eyes should`nt be putting you this quandary . ( Can`t argue with God ) . 17. You would be breaking tradiction and I should guess your an old tradictionalist. ( I am ) 18. Who get you up with a text if you wer`nt in Liverpool ( A tradiction that keeps rolling on ) 19. I would buy you a pint ( when you eventully turn up ) 20 . I would promise not to mention Prog Rock . 21. I would also promise not to mention Manchester 22. That door number of my childhood home . 23. As Art has said this is going to be a legendary meeting . 24 , If he`s a real mate he should have never booked a wedding on the one and only weekend you are tied up . 25. If your mate is a mate you will no doubt see him all year round . Something you can`t do with the likes of us Northerners as we are poor and don`t get to the Capital alot as we all know is bloody exspensive . 26 . Forget 25 as I almost go into politics which a subject that has never been brought up at a Beatle Meet . 27 . There is no 27 . 28. I would miss you . 29 . I`m going having my dinner now ?. 30 . The choice is obvious .

AL Hi Al, Basically if you have been invited to the wedding in the daytime then I would say you have to go.This shows you are valued friend. Where as if you have been just invited to the night , then this gives you lee way in regards to missin the night & I'm sure you friend would understand you not being there.(don't know about the mrs though) The other thing is if you miss the Forum meet up on Sat then arrange another day to suit all concerned. Either way We can work it out

Cheers for all your suggestions guys (good and bad! LOL!) :-D
Yeah, I have actually been invited all day otherwise I definitely wouldn't be in two minds about it! Still think I'm gonna have to travel back on the Saturday if only just to punch her in the arm for booking her wedding over Beatle Week!! LOL!

Dilemma solved... sort of! Having looked into the logistics and cost of returning home for my friend's wedding then going back to Liverpool the following morning, it's basically not doable unless I shell out mega bucks. But as she herself is a Beatle fan I'm sure she'll understand and what I thought I could do is ask some of the bands to send good luck messages or maybe even dedicate a song and I'll upload them to YouTube for their wedding day! What do you think? Sooooo basically, the upshot is..... I'll see you at the Beatle Forum booze-up ooops I mean meet up afterall!

Bill Heckle was beginning to panic as he thought he would be significantly down on beer sales for Beatleweek! Now he can afford that pre Beatleweek three week holiday to the Caribbean now!
