Sitting watching the TV at about 1:00am I swear I felt the floor moving back and forwards - it only lasted a couple of seconds so I thought nothing more of it! Later I was bidding on an eBay item and while I was waiting for it to finish, to while away the minutes I went into my Mac "Dashboard", which is a screen containing useless bits and pieces of information and gadgets, called "widgets". One of these widgets displays the location and time of earthquakes across the World, and yes, you've guessed it - there indeed was an earthquake at aprox 1:00 this morning!!!! Here's a screen print of my Mac's "Dashboard" display: By the way, in case you're interested, I didn't win the eBay item I was bidding on!!

Apparently it was quite a big earthquake by UK standards! This from the UK earthquake website: www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/recent_events/uk_special/market_rasen_27_feb_2008.pdfMARKET RASEN, LINCOLNSHIRE 27 FEBRUARY 2008 SEISMIC ALERT: 00:56 UTC 5.2 ML The following PRELIMINARY information is available for this earthquake: DATE: 27 February 2008 ORIGIN TIME: 00:56 46.6s UTC LAT/LON: 53.419º North / 0.354º East GRID REF: 509.4 kmE / 392.6 kmN DEPTH: 1.8 km MAGNITUDE: 5.2 ML LOCALITY: Market Rasen, Lincolnshire INTENSITY: 6 EMS The British Geological Survey recorded an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 ML 8 km east of Market Rasen, Lincolnshire at 00:56 GMT. The BGS has been inundated with calls from the public, media and emergency services throughout England. There is a report of one person having been injured. The epicentre is approximately 8 km east of Market Rasen and reports suggest that the earthquake has been felt widely across England, with reports of damage to chimneys in the epicentral area. Earthquakes of this size occur in the mainland UK roughly every 30 years, although are more common in offshore areas. This is the largest earthquake in the UK since the magnitude 5.4 ML Lleyn Peninsula earthquake in 1984, which was widely felt across England and Wales. Issued 27 February 2008

Didn't you hear a rumbling noise? How far away were you from the epicentre?

No, I didn't hear any noise - just the floor moving beneath my feet! We are 160 miles from Market Rasen (Lincolnshire), the epicentre.

I didn't notice anything. Being only about 30 miles from the epi-centre it nearly had me out of bed!!!!It had me really worried, it took me at least 30 seconds to get back to sleep.

The only earthquake I ever experienced was in Greece on holiday. I asked about the noise because just before the quake I heard what I thought was a train rumbling by, but I then remembered we were nowhere near a train line!

I was on holiday in Tunisia about 10 years back when the hotel room started shaking violently - outside in the street people were running around screaming. Very frightening experience if you've never been in an earthquake before - I just wanted to go home after that!

They have earthquakes in England? Is this something new? How odd. Last time we had an earthquake my family was visiting. They had never experienced one before and really, it was JUST a tremor, but when it happened I was in the next room without them and I just started laughing because I KNEW they would freak out. You get used to them after a while is what I'm saying. That and it's fun to make fun of your family.

Yeah, there are quite a lot of fault lines in the UK but thankfully we only get VERY small quakes. We get one largish one every 30 years or so - like the last one.
