This was the site of NEMS in Liverpool. Just demolished. Another piece of Beatles history gone!

That's a shame! Let me guess what's going there ...a parking lot? BTW mrmustard I wanted to ask you if you ever seen the film 'Violent Playground' filmed in 1958 Liverpool? Everytime I watch it I always look for maybe a young Beatle or Quarrymen in the background. lol

The Nems site is going to have a Forever 21 shop built on its site. This is an American clothes chain store that's similar to Primark in the UK. I think I would prefer a car park!

It might be a hard one to find since you're a region 2. But it's worth finding just for the background of all the Liverpool scenes from '58. I can just visulized a young John and Aunt Mimi walking in the background and going into that guitar shop. lol BTW it stars a very young David McCallum and Stan Baker, he was a Sean Connery type actor and in alot of British films.

I had a look at the new shop on the site. It's a branch of the American chain "Forever 21" I thought there might be a plaque commemorating the site of NEMS, but there is nothing at all. A real shame, and, as mentioned, another piece of history lost.

Brew you have not been on the site long but this has been a bug bare for many on the site. Historically we are terrible at preserving anything modern for the ages. Shakespeare's works only exist because his mates paid for the first folios out of their own pockets. Look how many of his plays disappeared because he was thought not worthy of note in his own era.
Future generations will not take kindly to our generation loosing The original Cavern, The Hacienda, and not sure if they saved the Twisted Wheel.

Yep here's the Liverpool theme song. Just go over to the 'Beatles Early Years' board and half the clubs I've put up that the Beatles played at are now gone!

Sad story of the NEMS building closing. This is going on ebay for about $500. I thought about printing up my own, for my LP collection!

Of course a very young Freddy Starr had a part in the movie. Don't know if anyone else of note were extras.

Probably so. I remember my Dad taking me on the overhead railway, and seeing all the ships, cruise liners and Royal Navy warships included. The docks were really busy back then.

Better news. There is a campaign to erect a Brian Epstein statute and today a group of celebs are cutting a record to raise funds. The ideal is to have the statue in Whitechapel, near to the site of NEMS.
