Let It Be is a great movie as well as being a great album & both seem to not get the respect they deserve. Some fans don't like it because it shows the breakup of the band even though the music is great. It's much better than the overrated concert documentary The Last Waltz with the Band, Eric Clapton & Bob Dylan. LIB isn't for everybody, if you're expecting A Hard Days Night, but it's my second favorite Beatles movie.

There is no doubting that it's a very interesting and important film - but I always find it so depressing, and not just because the band are breaking up, it's just the whole mood of the film is such a downer! For me, the song that sums up the whole experience is "The Long And Winding Road" which to these ears is just miserable! Compulsive viewing none-the-less!!

D'ya know, I'm rather ashamed to say that I've never seen it! I'm hoping that Purple Chick make good on their promise issue a new DVD version. I have always had a soft spot for the album though - I've Got A Feeling, and One After 909 are probably my favourite two track sequence on any Beatles album.

It's a bit depressing, but I love the part with the people in the streets during the rooftop gig.

John and Yoko waltzing around the set is quite amusing; one of the film's lighter moments.
John just looks a mess though throughout, with shaving cuts on his throat and foam at the corners of his mouth (rooftop scenes) and Paul never looked worse with that hideous beard. In fact they all looked really scruffy, far from the fashion icons they were just a few years earlier. Sorry for my girlie observations.

It's not great, but there's version of Let It Be on Youtube;
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Part Five
Part Six
Part Seven
Part Eight
Part Nine
Either of Glyn Johns' Get Back mixes is a fine substitute, too.

I love that bit on the rooftop where George drops to his knees to do a guitar lick in front of John! See clip 9, 57 seconds in.

I saw it on bootleg video for the first time about 18 years ago & it's just a great rock movie. The rooftop concert proves the Beatles could have toured back in 69 despite internal tension.

OK, as much as I love the Beatles, no way is "Let It Be" a better film than "The Last Waltz". Not visually, not musically, not in any way, shape or form. Having said that, I wish they would just release the official version on DVD already. I've heard that Paul and Ringo don't want it released because it shows the band in a bad light. Now I can understand why they wouldn't want to go out and promote it. They'd probably get sick of talking about the band's darker days. But they should release it, anyway. I'd love to see a clean copy with a remastered soundtrack. And imagine all the unused session footage they could put on a bonus disc. C'mon guys, please put it out.

I would agree with you in the main but the rooftop show puts the film on another level and it's this that blows the Last Waltz away. It just shows (as beatlestone has said before) that The beatles were a great live band and would have been up there with the best live acts of their time if they did tour with the technology available three years after they quit touring.

I just got to see it, like most said it was kinda gloomy but worth watching. You could tell George didnt feel like being filmed most of the time, but i liked how they could get into the mood like when they played "Shake Rattle and Roll" or when George and Ringo were working on "Octopus' Garden".
Oh and loved the whole Rooftop concert it was awesome.

Personally, I find the film too hard to watch. I've only seen it once or twice. One of my favourite things about the Beatles is the relationship they had with each other, the whole family unit thing and the way they acted with each other. So "Let it Be" is just too painful. IMAGINE if they'd done a docummentary of the making of "Rubber Soul" or "Revolver" How incredible would THAT have been to watch?
