Just read again the brilliant book by Ian Macdonald about The Beatles records. Even though i didn't agree with him on several songs, its a book i couldn't put down. I loved the section where he says on McCartney singing "you're gonna carry that weight", he was predicting no matter what they achieved as solo artists, the world would always go back to their days as a foresome and they would carry that burden for the rest of their careers.
Surely the finest book about The Beatles ?

Yes, it is a great book - the finest book? I don't think so. In terms of critique and detail it is up there with the best. However Macdonald seems to delight in disapproving of more Beatles songs, performances and production values than he praises.
I agree, its a right riveting read and you can't put it down but it doesn't mean to say he is right in every instance. If another writer had written the book, the balance may have been wholly different. In particular Macdonald is very disparaging of Harrison which, in almost every instance, I found unreasonable. He appears to have no real appreciation of Harrison as a guitarist yet you read time and time again that the most famous and admired of guitarists always cite Harrison as an influence.
